I know how it is to deal with someone like that. I don't see how some of you can say it is interesting. It's just sad because people with these symptoms push peope, friends, and relatives out of their lives.  And alot of times their outlook to the world is very spiteful. Even to those that try to help. And not only that but someone like that can never even interact with a relative that's of a young age. Becuase they would either not make any since or just show a child to fear things. And not to fear things in the healthy way for basic survival. But in an un healthy way with fear and paranoia. And even though sometimes you think they are all fine on their own it could be any moment in where a crazy notion of theirs hits them and they find themselves into a situation with the general public.  I for one wouldn't encourage that behavior by listening to those made up thoughts. and I don't find it at interest at the unescapable misery of someone else that they can't shake off whether they show it or not

Hmmm... what makes you hold those beliefs?

I spoke with my schizophrenic relative when I was very young. I have memories of him from when I was no older than 5, he was a cigarette smoking joker, that's what I remember him for. I do not view the world as he does, nor do I smoke as he does. The power he had in my upbringing was little to none, and communication with him was not harmful in any way. He is not spiteful of the conversation we engage in, but is rather appreciative to have family around him. Every Christmas I receive a card from him.

I can see why you wouldn't find inescapable misery at all interesting, and neither do I. I don't believe it is inescapable misery at all. There are a few posters on the shroomery who have had schizophrenic breaks and returned. Feel free to look up their posts and decide for yourself if their stories are true or not.

If I may... you present that listening to delusions is reinforcing the behavior. Why?

its strange though, the parental unit was always trying to combat the world ciew he was imparting to his siblings, cause it was not compatible with main stream "functioning" society.

My mom had a breakdown long ago and was never the same.  I know what it is to deal with someone with this. No matter what she will never be the same.  But she speaks of things as if it were true.  I don't entertain those notions and ideas. Because it's just going to reinforce her thoughts perceived to be as true if people around her just take what she says serious. It's like it's her versus the world and and every past friend, acquaintance, relative or neighbor is out to get her.

This is coming from a Paranoid schizo (myself)

Insanity is heaven and hell, some moments your in complete bliss, and the next moment you are being hunted by evil forces or psychics, or the cops or even Satan himself.

Make no mistake, insanity may be interesting to watch, but its very intense to experience... the tricky part is you dont even realize how intense and messed up things really are when your not medicated.

People lose alot of respect for someone who has lost their mind, while you try to explain yourself, they just make their assumptions and disregard what you say, it's kinda like being a kid, noone understands you, noone listens to you, and you can see it in their eyes.

I went insane almost 4 years ago, and most schizos wont admit this, but I will never be the same again, something always feels wrong inside me. I went through 3 months of intense psychosis, I would not want to experience it again for any amount of time, I feel for those who never regain their sanity.

I'm sorry you had to experience it in someone so close.

You feel that what she says can not be taken seriously.
You also feel that if those around her took her seriously, it would reinforce her beliefs.

Conversely, you say that she feels everyone is against her. Put into other words, that no one is for her.

Can a person be supported without being taken seriously?

Thanks for sharing.

This is an aspect I would love to see change. But as can be seen in this thread, there are emotional arguments against it.

Its a shame how people loose respect for people like that, and just classify them as crazy like the rest of people with problems. I feel bad for people that have to feel and think like that everyday

It's a very natural feeling, the person does not realize anything is wrong.

its when you recover when you realize how bad you really were.

wtf. both of the patients in those vids were heavy smokers. even though it looked like the 70s its still a good idea to keep the mentally ill away from shit like that, habits you know, they keep their minds going in circles. as a previous poster said : thats un good.

i found that gerald was a specially intelligent guy. it seemed as if he knew quite a lot but he had a very difficult time explaining the most basic things.

i enjoyed those. thanks.

Some interesting videos that made me feel very sad that someone was going through delusional depression and paranoia.

All I can say after watching these videos is im glad I have the head God gave me and im feeling for anyone going through anything like the OP's videos.

Truely sad and I wish I could help, schizophrenia is just plan scarry stuff.

Peace and Loave and Happy 420 everyone!

it seems like the frustrations of the patients lies in the fact  that we (those not perceiving the way they are) can't understand their method of communication.

anyone have a schizo->english dictionary on hand? :frown: in all seriousness this shit sucks...my grandmother had it. full blown paranoid schizophrenia.
