Only if she/he/it has an open sore on the lip, and tranfers some fluid to a cut in your mouth.

highly highly unlikely. it needs to be closer contact than that really, and would only spread if they had 'open wounds' eg a cut. and even then its unlikely. much more likely thru oral sex 
plus ud only get like the cold sore virus that way anyway.

most viruses only last a few seconds once outside ur body. so the time taken to pass the beer or the cigarette would usually be enough for the virus to die, is my understanding.

Unlikely. I smoke weed with people who have herpes all the time and I have never gotten it. I have heard that its possible but in real life the cases are very scarce.

well, i know for definite that the aids virus lasts for only 4 seconds outside of the human body. so is why u cudnt pick it up from toilet seats etc. i say 'my understanding' because i dont know it about every single sti out there.

It doesn't die in 4 seconds... 
It certainly doesn't do well, and dies off quickly... it also doesn't reproduce outside the body. AIDS is one thing that is hard to transmit without some rough sex or needle play.
But things like Hep B can last for a few weeks on surfaces.

I got tested because someone I thought I loved brought me a GIFT, how thoughtful, so I called this person, told them about it, got that person a script from my Dr. Paid for it.
Do you think they were grateful? Hell No!
And do you think that they blamed someone else for it! Hell Yeah!
I didn't blame this person, I blame myself for not protecting myself.
Thank God It was only 4 pills at one time and gone within a week.
Pisses me off that I did not respect myself enough to protect myself.
You know once you get an STD you have no one to blame but yourself.
I am a paranoid person I get frequent check ups, mainly because the one I love don't love themselves so how could they respect and love me?

Before you read about STD stats: note that they may or may not include HPV, which really throws things off. Some institutions do not consider it an STD, because it is so widespread among sexually active people.
If you are a straight male and wear a condom every time, you are pretty well off against the bacterial diseases and HIV. The only thing you really have to worry about is Herpes.
Have sex with the lights on and watch out for shady characters.

Like I said I am very paranoid I check for everything!
Herpes can be found in the blood, before and without a break out.
HPV(can also cause cervical cancer and venereal warts) can be found during a routine Pap,( I ask for the works, I also do research, why do a half ass check up?) I have had ridiculous amounts of lab work done, but I will play it safe for now on. I will pleasure my damn self.
But for anyone out there that may be scared of what they might not know, go find out, because half of the mind @*%! is not knowing!
Take care of yourself because most other people really don't care about you, some don't even care for their self.
