My dad sent me some that were in my name I guess IDK, anyway what the hell do with it open a savings deposit it and let it gain the interest?

yes, open a savings account. but a savings account is not going to gain interest.a checking account, on the other hand, will gain interest.

Yep ,they gain interest untill you cash them ,they should have some sort of date on them from the purchase.
Assuming they are 18 years old ,they will have whatever rate of interest /times 18 years,the longer you hold them ,the more they are worth.
There are several different kinds of bonds ,be shure to look up your specific bond for more details.

I would get a fireproof safe ...over 700,000 safety deposit boxes were cut open last year when the banks change hands and they mysteriously loose track of whos box it is ,you know its yours ,but they dont ,so they cut them open and auction off the contents......just say no to safety boxes.

I believe you're thinking of CDs. Bonds don't ever come due, they just keep appreciating once they mature. If you turned it into a new one, you'd have to wait for it to mature again.

savings bonds usually do get much better interest than a savings account, but, they still have a hard time beating inflation.
