Either this is one of my good friends from school or this is coincidental timing from said kid because he's been listening to this a lot from what he tells me.

I must say, this album has completely blown me away, my pick for best album of 2009...so far
Dan Deacon - Bromst

get it while it's hot, link could go down any second

i'm just now listening to it for the first time.  literally still on the first song.  but i must say, impressive start.  my first impression was that it seemed remarkably similar to some animal collective.  the song does a fantastic job of filling the space completely.

second song is heading in an interesting direction as well.  i can definitely see getting into this album.  it just works so well with that overlay of noise.

i can't stop fucking listening to this album.  so many good fucking songs one after another.

Yea, thats how I feel about it now, I did the overplay test to see if I could still like the album after 20 or so listens in a short span of time. THe sounds started to blend for me and not really stand out, def his best album so far but still the same Dan Deacon sound.

But there are a few songs on there that are pretty epic.

Hey Jewunit, what are you into right now? or may I say what do you think is the best album of the year?

i'd say that's a pretty valid opinion to have.  but i'm a sucker for crescendos, distortion, and noise-pop.  the climax of every song feels like being blasted with a sonic tidal wave.  it's very easy for me to lose myself in songs like that.

Man, I've been so fucking stagnant on music for months that I don't even have a valid opinion anymore.
I do this a lot. Get tons of new shit, get real judgemental and figure out what I think is good. Drill that, then revist other shit, see if I missed anything. I'm still on 2008 shit for the most part

Edit: That said, here's some shit that I've found has staying power from 2008.

Fuck Buttons - Street Horrrsing (Great night time/ bed time music)
Fleet Foxes (obviously)
Vampire Weekend (If it counts as 2008)
Born Ruffians (awesome live)
Santogold (Better than MIA could hope to be in my opinion)
The Ruby Suns (Don't listen to 'em enough)
Ponytail (Thanks to you SPS)
No Age (I'm a sucker for Lo-Fi)
Times New Viking (I'm a sucker for Lo-Fi)
Lemonade (Everyone needs a little dance music)
Hercules and Love Affair (Trannies gone dance pop!)
Beach House (Good mellow music)

I haven't been as attached to The Dodos as I expected to be, although that was a good album. It's just too fucking long.
Oh yeah, the Black Keys' Attack and Release is always good.

AH! For 2009: Cymbals Eat Guitars. I think I upped the album. Check it out, it's good. Two of the members are like 20 or 21, two others are in the mid 30s. Give the young guys a few more releases if they can stay consistent and it will be great shit.

Wavves - Wavves

I'm a sucker for this kind of shit.
Driving, distorted, simple, and loud. Some of it has an almost surf rock feel in the drums that gives it that real nod-your-headness to it.
It could do without a couple bullshit filler songs just like a lot of lo-fi (Deerhunter!), and once or twice I thought the guitar melody or solo got a little clunky.
All in all though I think it's pretty fucking awesome.

Also, the Dan Deacon album is growing on me, and it's much better on headphones. You get to hear all the small left/right interplay much more.

hell yeah son!  i've been trying to find this album.  fuck yeah.  i can't stop listening to "so bored".  it's the only single i've got by wavves and it's catchy as hell.

another new lo-fi beauty i found is Little Girls.  they have a song called youth tunes that's pretty awesome.  unfortunately i can't seem to find their album anywhere either.

So sometimes when you search "little girls" you find a new band:smirk:

Deepak Ram - Steps

Deepak Ram is an established master of the bansuri , an Indian bamboo flute, and a prolific recording artist whose main focus has been North Indian classical music. On Steps, the South African-born Ram showcases an uncanny ability to improvise with the bansuri in a jazz setting, accompanied by guitarist Vic Juris, bassist Tony Marino and drummer Jamey Haddad.

The disc has a mellow flavor with an abundance of world-beat grooves. Stand-out tracks include the classic John Coltrane compositions, "Giant Steps" and "Naima," George Gershwin's "Summertime" and the Ram original "Blues for Shyam Baba." "Giant Steps," presented as a light bossa-nova, showcases Ram brilliantly negotiating the tune's harmonic demands, defying the non-jazz expectations of his instrument. "My Funny Valentine," the disc closer swings along nicely and features an interesting exchange of riffs between Ram and Juris.

Throughout the recording, Juris establishes himself as a guitarist of diverse offerings, performing convincingly on both electric and acoustic guitars. His electrified solo on "October" is a spontaneous highlight of the session. Marino's bass lines are warm, syncopated and supportive, laying a solid foundation for Ram to build on. Haddad adds multiple layers of color, utilizing various percussion instruments as well as traditional drum-kit.

The idea of using an unconventional instrument like the bansuri on a jazz recording finds success in the hands of a master musician like Ram. The integration of musical cultures heard on Steps seems quite natural.

Built to Spill - There's Nothing Wrong with Love

This is my favorite Built to Spill album, it finds the perfect medium between their boring jam band tunes which they have progressed to over the years and their early abrupt lofi sound. It perfectly melds these two styles and the outcome is just great, this is a must listen to CD if you're into indie rock at all. Fucking wonderful basically, definitely in the top 20 of my best CDs ever list.

Just gave that Built to Spill album a quick once through. Definitely sounds much more basic than some of their later albums...which i like. Although "Carry the Zero" is my favorite song of theirs.

Carry the Zero is definitely one of their best songs. Along with Car, Out of Site, Nowhere Nothin' Fuckup, Sick and Wrong, and Fly Around My Pretty Little Miss.

The Mountain Goats - The Sunset Tree

Again, my favorite CD of this band. Wonderful indie folk rock, if you haven't heard this before definitely give it a listen. John Darnielle has a very unique voice that just seems to work, it's exactly the voice I want to hear with this type of music.

Stand out tracks: This Year, Dance Music, Dilaudid
