Due to the large amount of threads I see here on these forums about this, I've decided to compose some information that is asked very often. If this is your first time, or a friend/loved one's first time, here is some advice and information to get started and what to "expect" on your wonderful journey. Before I begin I must say thank you to everyone who munches on the wonderful magical mushrooms!
Is this your first time? - First Dose? What some may think before they try mushrooms, especially for the inexperienced psychedelic user, is they will "trip hard" or "hallucinate." Please take a moment and realize that the mushrooms must be respected, and not abused. I don't like using the term "trip hard," but rather "have a trip" because magical mushrooms are much like a journey, at the larger doses. You will not be "hallucinating" unless you take a very very large dose (I will get into this later), but rather you will be witness to visual distortions. No, this does not mean you will think your clothes hamper is a giant hamster.
Visual distortions - You can stare at a bush and it will look as if its leaves and branches are moving around. Same with trees and just about anything else that isn't completely solid and plain. Some may experience more morphing than others. A good example is window blinds. You can sit on your couch and look at the blinds if they're closed, and it will look like they're moving as if the window were open and there was a light breeze.
Probably the first thing you'll notice after you take magic mushrooms is that you get a very adrenaline-like rush for about 5 seconds. Some are freaked out by this, but don't worry .. just keep in mind your body is totally safe from the mushrooms. There is nothing unhealthy about them. I can't stress this enough, but magic mushrooms are 100% non-toxic to your body. It's just hard to digest. Please don't freak out over a stomach ache.
The second thing you'll notice is the walls. No, they are not really breathing, they just look like they are. They will look like they are expanding and contracting back and forth like someone would breathe. From here on out it's fun. Just keep reading.
Rule #1: First and foremost, always remember you are under the influence of a psychedelic. You WILL be fine. There is absolutely nothing in psychedelic mushrooms that is harmful to your body.NONE. The only way mushrooms will effect your body is when it's being digested. The fibers from the mushrooms can take some effort by your stomach, so you may feel a bit nauseous - just remember your body is completely SAFE from the mushroom. Some may think while under the influence, or get a vibe, that there is something toxic or poisonous inside their body and they just want to get it out. This is a normal feeling for beginners because they have never experienced this before, and may not know that it's completely safe to the body. What many uninformed mushroom beginners may not know or need more info on:---Vibes---While you are on your trip, you will notice a lot more "feelings" from different things. Certain things may give you a bad feeling, like something is wrong. This can be quite the opposite - feeling wonderful, at peace, which is the best experience. If you are getting a bad vibe from something, avoid it or find a way to fix it.
Ex: You are with a friend tripping. It's your first time, but your friend has a bit more experience. You're at your peak and are having a good time. Maybe listening to some music while laying down on a couch, floor or bed. You have to use the bathroom (bathrooms can be fun btw), when you come back, your friend asks you how you're doing. You respond with "I'm doin great, just taking this whole experience in." Then your friend turns off the music and asks if you want to go outside (I advise that you atleast look at some type of nature while shrooming - a tree, grass, flowers, even a plain ol bush).
So you step outside and are blown away at the beauty and feelings you're getting from everything. You look at a flowerpot with a few colorful flowers get this alien notion that for some reason they are all "beings." Personification, if you will. (You will understand once you're on the trip). Things start becoming a little overwhelming for you, so you want to go inside.
This is the vibe. You don't want to be outside because you're trying to understand a lot of different things and get stressed out.
Options:Good: Inform friend that you're getting bad vibes outside and if he minds if you want to go back in - with or without him, whatever you feel most comfortable with.
Bad: Simply asking "hey wanna go back inside?" won't let your friend know why you wanna go back inside and he might just say no cuz he's probably having a good time outside. Him saying no can upset you and give you even more bad vibes.. and the more you stay outside the more stressed you'll get. It's always best to let someone know how you're feeling if something isn't going right.
*Annoying people are the worst - if you're with a friend and you're tripping and they start to annoy you unintentionally, try and occupy yourself with something that doesn't involve them. Or if possible, occupy them with something. Don't tell someone they're being annoying (while under the influence) - it can spark a bad experience.Rule #2: Comfort, comfort comfort. As lubby dubby as it may sound, if you're with a loved one or a close friend, it shouldn't be a problem. Always try to remain calm in any situation - and remember, you're not sober, but it will all be OK. Also, physical contact feels amazing. So if someone is having a hard time staying calm, just put ur hand on their back and say, "It'll be okay. Nothing's going to happen to you."---Music---Listen to music. Try to use headphones, as sometimes if you're listening to music on the TV or stereo, it can become distorted - I've actually stopped being able to hear the TV but still able to hear someone talk, at the same time. What type of music you ask? Well, anything you like. Something many prefer or suggest is the band Tool. I wouldn't suggest listening to anything like Tool on your first trip as it can be quite depressing, although soul-searching, so I'd suggest on your first time, some ambient or psytrance.
http://www.winamp.com/radio---Safety---The best tip is to stay out of contact with people you don't like or can't get along with while you're on your trip. If you're young, stay away from parents, teachers, and closed minded beings. Not doing so may quite possibly trigger bad vibes, stress you out, and send a would-be wonderful experience into the worst time of your life. Annoying people are the worst - if you're with a friend and you're tripping and they get to be annoying, just try to avoid them.
* Stay inside if you live in a populous area. If you can, try and visit a park where there isn't a lot of people. Don't just roam the streets. Signs can become unreadable and you can get lost, even if you're just two doors from your house, although it's not very common.
---Dosage---(This is from MY experience, if you feel more trustworthy to your source of mushrooms, ask him/her. My advice is to buy an eighth, and then ask their opinion on how much you should dose for your first time. Potency of mushrooms vary from source to source)
The best dosage to take for a first time is 2.5 grams (dried cubes), which is a little more than half of an eighth. This will most likely bring you well into a level 3 experience, ranked on a scale of 1-5 that you can view here:
http://www.shroomery.org/9067/What-do-the-different-trip-levels-Lvl-1-5-meanHow long does the "high" last? 6 hours. You will still notice some visual distortions for about 3 hours after you're "sober.", some swirlies here and there if you stare hard enough (like at a carpet floor). I find cartoons very interesting near the end of my trips. Colors are still enhanced, and they seem to be quite lively and sorta "jump out" of the screen, haha.
---How to take shrooms---Quite simply, eat them. If you want more bang for your buck, there are different techniques (teks) that you can use that brings your trip quicker and more intensely. You can view these teks by clicking the "Search Posts" function here on the forums. Some common teks are the Lemon tek and the Orange Juice tek.
Lemon tek - take 1/4 cup of lemon juice, put your shrooms (either whole or chopped up/blended) in the cup, let sit for 10-15 mins. Eat the shrooms then drink the last of the lemon juice. It's been discussed that this can reduce the minor stomach pains / nausea by making it easier to digest, however this can immensely intensify the trip.
Don't like lemon juice?
Try the Orange juice tek: take 1/2 cup of orange juice, put your shrooms (either whole or chopped up/blended) in the cup, let sit for 10-15 mins. Eat the shrooms then drink the last of the orange juice. It's been discussed that this can reduce the minor stomach pains / nausea by making it easier to digest, however this can immensely intensify the trip.
There are more teks out there, all it takes is a simple click on the search button
What to do in the event that you or someone you are with is having a very bad experience and is freaking out
This is perhaps the most important part of this post. If you or someone you know is freaking out and overwhelmed, there is a number of things you should and should not do.DO's and DONT's:Comfort him/her/yourself
Let them know that they will literally be okay - make yourself sound as positive and 200% sure that they/you will be safe (afterall, it is true!). They MUST KNOW they will be okay. Not knowing that is what sparks most bad trips. What they are feeling is just a "high" and they WILL come down from it.
Inform them of anything you've previously read that might have happened. Try a different environment if they feel overwhelmed, try a different activity like going to a different room or drawing. Again, COMFORT is almost always helps.
*IF YOU ARE TOLD TO BACK OFF, DO IT. DO NOT TAKE IT PERSONALLY.* Believe it or not, it's quite possible you may be stressing someone out even if you don't mean to. It's okay, they will forgive you, they don't hate you, it's just sometimes someone can be overbearing and freak someone out. If that's the case, occupy yourself with something that doesn't involve them, or if possible do something funny that will make them laugh. Usually pressure and stress is lifted quickly when this is the case and they will be back and talking to you again within a few minutes. Just let them find their happy place.
I highly suggest viewing this short video of how to help someone going through a bad trip:
