I agree completely with lipa's reaction. A culture is pretty much useless unless it is properly labeled. Everyone please label your cultures, it isn't fair to the receiver if you don't.

Want this in my threads. And a question. What is expected to be sent other than the dish, and strain? Should the date be included? anything else? Are there special precautions to take to avoid damage during mailing?

Just send the dish with the culture growing in it or a master culture slant, or even grain spawn or sawdust spawn if you have it sterile so the receiving grower can get it to it's fruiting stage.
Most people assume the culture is relatively fresh unless you state otherwise. If it is older, just include that information on your offer to the next person, but do it here, so they know what to expect.
As for precautions, just mail it in a padded envelope you get at the post office for around 2-3 american dollars apiece. If it gets lost, that's between you and the receiving end to work out if you don't insure it. I don't insure mine.
