so this is a mix tape. a lot of remixes and mashups, and a lot of dub/reggae. some really, really quality stuff on here. a few of my favorite songs are "posse on broadway", "gerri and the holograms", "marijuana" and "find a way". there are a lot more gems on this 35 track album too. check it out.

The glossy production on Badly Drawn Boy's Have You Fed the Fish? adds a brassy sheen to even the most seemingly heartfelt songs, such as "You Were Right," which features the line "I'm turning Madonna down/And I'm calling it my best move." Actually, this lyric encapsulates many of Have You Fed the Fish?'s characteristics at once -- it's trying to be quirky and yet... More mainstream at the same time, it's initially cute and yet a little too clever-clever. Songs like the jangly, off-kilter funk of "Using Our Feet," the title track, and "40 Days, 40 Fights" are similar. Not coincidentally, the shorter songs and vignettes that dot Have You Fed the Fish? reveal more of Badly Drawn Boy's strengths -- the delicate, acoustic "I Was Wrong," the lush instrumental "Centerpeace," and the sweet, Lennon-y love song "Instrumental Lines" recall the dazzling, kaleidoscopic beauty of The Hour of Bewilderbeast. Yet for every misstep there are successes like the witty funk-pop of "The Further I Slide" and "All Possibilities," which blends disco strings and mariachi horns into a bittersweet yet uplifting gem.  Coconut Records - Nighttiming

Coconut Records' debut album, Nighttiming, is a breezy, hopeful walk through some surprisingly beautiful and endearing songs. The album pushes off slowly with the meandering "This Old Machine," a track that will instantly capture the hearts and ears of Bright Eyes and Death Cab lovers everywhere. Schwartzman's singing voice is decidedly different from his speaking voice, and is very soothing to listen to.
Everything about this record screams California, particularly the aptly titled "West Coast." With its bells and flowing guitars, this song is simply meant to be listened to while driving along the beach at night. The lyrics are not particularly deep, but they fit the laid-back feel of the album to a T.
"Back to You" is along the lines of a Rooney song, which is fitting, seeing as Schwartzman's brother Robert Carmine fronts Rooney. With perfectly placed handclaps and a catchy chorus, much toe-tapping is sure to ensue.
The album's title track is by far the best on the record. A dance tune of the best kind, "Nighttiming" is a song that will be stuck in your head for days on end; the type of song you'll find yourself craving to hear again and again. "Minding My Own Business" and "The Thanks I Get" are a couple of well crafted pop songs, and songs like "Mama" and "Ask Her to Dance" are very reminiscent of Bright Eyes in Schwartzman's vocal tone. While these styles may seem disparate, all of the songs weave together seamlessly to make an album that flows wonderfully from start to finish.
Full of light hooks and poppy piano pieces, Nighttiming should not be tossed aside as the failed efforts of an actor. Rather, it should be played again and again while dreaming of the California coastline. Very rarely do albums come along that straddle the line between light pop and hip indie, and with Nighttiming, Schwartzman has done that better than I could have ever hoped for.~

The Appleseed Cast - Sagarmatha
Appleseed Cast's latest release. primarily instrumental post-rock (think explosions), with a vocal song or two treading the waters of shoegaze pop. most places have been ranking this album about 3-4 out of 5 with the general consensus being that it's a quality album, but simply nothing new for the band.
I've only listened to it like twice through so far. i like what i hear, it's good stuff, these guys are definitely professionals - but i wouldn't call it particularly outstanding. enjoy

Wow I'm glad I found this thread. I used to co-op at a local university radio station where I was exposed to tons of new music far before it ever went main stream, but since then I haven't found much new music. This'll be a great place to keep getting some new music!
