Keep your calluses rubbed down, and put tape over anything in risk of tearing.

I tore open a callus on my left hand and it has gotten a little infected so I cant do snatches etc. with my left hand.

I can still do swings so I'm not completely decommissioned from the bells.

I just wrapped an old dishcloth over my handle. MAkes the handle slightly wider as well and I can feel the difference on my gripwork it's making.

I'm also wrapping my wrists for now, not tightly, but just so I have some padding for the cleans. I'm taming my arc pretty damn well, it just still fucking kills haha.

As for callouses... use a pumice stone in the shower... Seriously helps.

Your form is off if it's hurting your wrist.

I'm sure thats true, I need a much better way of holding it once I rack it. It's not a matter of it slamming or hitting my arm at all, it's mostly just the pressure on my already stressed forearm extensors. It's also not a matter of my wrist being at a weird angle or anything, it's purely pressure wise.

EDIT: So I noticed if I gooseneck my wrist a tad bit more(really just aligning it undere the handle if anything) there is no pressure on the press, and a lot less on the clean. I'm going to work on some wrist technique

So, I've been living in DC for about 5 months now, workin my desk job - and have been realizing how DIFFICULT it is to stay in shape.

-Desk job all day
-Exhausted when you get home
-Gotta get up at 6am to get a good workout in BEFORE work
-coworkers always goin out to lunch

I've been taking advantage of my apartment complex's gym for a while now - lots of treadmills and isolation machines.  Recently I've been unable to drag my ass out of bed at 6am so I've had to work out at night.  The problem is:  the gym upstairs is PACKED after work.  So what do I do?

Kettlbell.

God Dayum i seem to have completely forgotten why this form of working out is so amazing.  Goodness gracious its a hell of a workout!  Been enjoyihng it - and getting back into it.  Nowhere near my peak (which I think was something like 740 24kg swings, sets of 20...) but i'm not TERRIBLE either.

 :awesome:

Yup, there really is nothing like the kettlebell.

I can't even run hard enough to get my heart rate up to where snatches can bring it. Truly a vigorous workout if you put the effort in it

YAY!!

I have recently been getting back into it as well.  I was rock climbing too much and got injured.  Coming back to kettlebells now, its wonderful!

"A human being is part of the whole, called by us 'Universe'; a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest -- a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness.

This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and affection for a few persons nearest us.

Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole nature in its beauty.

Nobody is able to achieve this completely but striving for such achievement is, in itself, a part of the liberation and a foundation for inner security."

I have been looking into kettlebells for a while now. I recently picked up a small one (20 lbs). I know that it is smaller than the recommended weight for a beginner male, but I am pretty weak.

I have read through some of the ETK book and watched the video. I've been practicing the wall sumos, halos, stretches, and swings.

Looking through the book, it seems like the beginner workout is 12 minutes of swings and lots of get ups. Am I correct in this?

I didn't really understand the workout guidelines as I'm not really experienced with exercising. Could some one give me a little bit of advice on a workout regiment?

When doing swings with the 20 pounder, I barely made it to 50. I'm pretty out of shape, but I'm really trying to change this. What is the best plan of attack?

EDIT: I am interested much more in building endurance and fat loss than I am in building large muscles.

Try doing your swings in sets of 20.  Do them nonstop for 30 seconds, then take a 30 second break.  REpeat until either your (1)grip (2)lungs, or (3)legs give out.

Enjoy the fat loss!

Typically, the "program minimum" via ETK is
Day 1:  swings, as i outlined above, for as long as you can while maintaining good form

Day 2:  get-ups, alternating sides with every rep, till you can't feel like you can do them WITH GOOD FORM anymore.

ask away!  I  kettlebells

Thanks! I've been reading through the thread and it contains a lot of useful info. I think I will benefit greatly from the use of this kettlebell.

I can tell it will take me a while to get into the groove of things. Currently doing more than a few wall sumos has we beat. I hope that I can control my laziness and stick with this.

Can you post any videos on techniques for getups? ETK just says do it however you can, but I end up almost like a turtle on its back. I know it is because I am doing it wrong.

-After  work- 1 mile run (7:00)

Thursday:
Pre-work upper-body on the isolation machines in my apt complex's gym

After work- TGUs (24kg) 20 per side

Saturday:  feeling tight

So I went from being able to do 20 TGU/side with the 24kg last week.....

... to being able to do 6 TGU/side with the 32kg today.  Goddamn it really is a world of difference.  My wrist can hardly stay straight with that 72lb weighing it down

Today was swings day. I mixed up and did getups yesterday. I will get back with the plan after tomorrow's rest day.

Did around 20 (lost count) getups spaced over about 20 minutes.

Today I did 2x10 of wall sumos, 10 halos both directions, and 120 swings (form started to suffer so I stopped) over 12 minutes. Then I did 3x10 pushups.

I's using a 20lb kettlebell. I have to say, I am completely beat.

Been sticking with the KBs.  seeing results.  i'm sure a LOT of the progress i'm seeing is a result of my EXTREMELY healthy eating habits i'm engaging in right now.... but either way - super happy
