I guess this is aimed at people who read trip reports before they tripped, or to prepare them for a higher dose.
What trip reports helped inform you?

I used to read up quite a bit on everything I was going to take.
Erowids various reports were what I used.
Now I have experience in most things I want to do, so I don't bother reading them anymore. Except the mescaline ones. I loooooooove hearing about peoples experience with it, simply because its such a beautiful drug.

really? that's really cool. what's different about mescaline? any specific reports you could mention that would highlight those differences? I've read huxleys first report, it's a classic

Its just that...I can't pick a certain ONE because its how they ALL fit together. Everyone has such a unique experience and I really haven't heard of anyone having a horrible time on it (theres always exceptions)
Lots here: http://www.erowid.org/experiences/subs/exp_Mescaline.shtml
I'll pick a favorite for ya...

THAT one! It turns out it wasn't mescaline, it was "peyote" (see why I got confused?) but I LOVED that report

None of them informed me about anything except dose. The psychedelic experience catches me by surprise somehow almost every single time. That's part of the point, I think. That said, I love reading trip reports. Sometimes they're funny, sometimes they make you think, and sometimes they're just fucking weird and that's great too. Plus I can't really trip anymore, or at least for a while... psychedelics always seem to make me feel like I'm going crazy now. But I also worry about going normal, so that's what trip reports and the shroomery are for.

My first introduction and I thought a good one was "Mescal and mechanisms of hallucinations" by H.Kluver. I highly recommend "Varieties of the Psychedelic Experience" by Masters and Houston, and also enjoyed the brief reports by Jim DeKorne in "Psychedelic Shamanism".

none. not even Huxley's naive account in Doors of Perception.
no report I've ever read informed me of what I was going to experience. experiences are subjective
I've read of people "freaking out" on pcp, and seeing things that weren't there on lsd. I've never experienced either

Piracetam, I agree that ones first psychedelic experience is going to shatter all expectations regardless of what one has read for the experience is uncommunicable. However reading Kluver enabled me to approach my first experiences with a sense of anticipation and without anxiety which created a good setting for positive experiences for ones first exposures. Masters and Houston is good because it delineates the broad range of experiences possible, helping to create a map of sorts for understanding and working with the psychedelics for ultimately these substances are tools. Information helps one to utilize these tools more effectively.
