I have been thinking about how GGMM talks about morels fruiting after floods and many of the mycelium directly connected to the fruit are closely associated with sclerotium. So maybe, to induce sclerotium formation you should dry out the media "drought" and then flood it before letting it all come back to natural stable conditions. This would in turn signal the sclerotium to send up new growth and hopefully, fruit.

Articles online that claim auccessful indoor cultivation mention flushing with water for 24 hours.
Think though, morels fruit in spring, not autumn after summer.

My first sacks did not produce sclerotia. I am starting new bags today, as it happens.

No sclerotia.
I need to rethink my substrate when I try morels again.
I want to try the pierced foil tek, but am not sure how to do it without introducing contams.
I will get back to it....these days my myco efforts are being stymied by life.
Take care,

i havent been able to get after it in a while either.i wana get back up and goin but lifes got other plans right now lol. i tried the pierced foil method when i was workin with the m. rufobrunnea. i had my nute rich layed, then the foil perforated with a bamboo skewer then had the nute poor layer. i pasturised it and knoocked with agar culture. i got some really nice sized sclerotia but never got to do anything with them. the biggest was aprox. inch inch and a half in diameter. ill get back at it soon!

So I wanted to grow morels, I started scouring the web and I remembered to come to the shroomery for all my growing info. And I think I have found a page that lays it out step by step, from fresh mushroom to product. Hope this helps at all. http://www.gorsky.com/~pdilley/Grow_Morel_Mushrooms/Online_instructions.html Maybe this has been posted already, I don't know, because I didn't read every page.

ah, chinavivers.. quite image heavy page that is...
last spring there was two programs about Chinavivers on CCTV. 人工种出羊肚菌 and 揭开羊肚菌的神秘面纱, possible because they had managed to sell their method to abroad.

So I dont see the point in making a new thread when this one is pretty friggin epic.
What is everyone up too ?
I have some blonde morels on rye grain right now . its insanely fast and I like it alot!! with mycelium that grows this fast it makes it easy to keep making spawn for more experiments.
JD you still fucking around with these?

I have a batch of morels that have been growing along side my cottage for the past 4 years. Somehow they went from the bush to there. Each year the patch gets a bit bigger and bigger but I can' be bothered to cultivate them seeing as the whole bush is full of em.
One thing I have noticed about morels in my area is that they do not like water at all, the winter melt is enough for them. A little rain after the first fruiting (roughly 2 weeks after) helps the next batch come up wich appears to be a slightly different strain, but those often get drowned out depending on the season and how much water there was.

Can you post pics of the myc? I'm doing experiments on edible myc. I wonder if morel can be a candidate. Maybe you guys too. If it's difficult to fruit, then better just eat the myc.

Hey Psy,
Yeah, well, I did the traditional experiments on the first time through with this genus. I fruited blocks in the GH without success (no great surprise there) and have placed a few blocks about the yard. This is actually the first Spring since planting them, and so I may be getting first fruits soon. (and I will take the time to harvest whatever pops up...the more the merrier ;0)
I intend to restart this genus, and the next step up will likely be to try the "pierced separator between spawn and less nutritious sub" experiment, along with a few others.
As usual, I have too many irons in the fire, but I still advance on all fronts, if slower for my lack of focus.
Thanks for asking,
JD
P.S. Sparkle, I am sure that morels have goodness in them that is also in the mycelium, but, honestly, this is a fruit that one wants to eat in the form of the fruit. It is a real delicacy. Try drying them out, re-hydrating them, and cooking them in butter. I promise you a permanent olfactory memory if you do ;0)

ya i understand , your a fellow spore whore doing too much at once!!
i am going to be putting more focus on the Morchellas . You should see my habitat for outdoor cultivation! ive bee working on this mycoscape since last year. i even made a chip charcoal patch last spring to inoculate this spring to simulate the last year fire thing. its under about 12 apple trees that is next to a hardpacked gravel road. its got alot going for it!
I will keep ya updated.

I envy your space bro.
..but we are indeed on similar paths. I dumped ashes on one of my outdoor patches to simulate the fire too. :0)
I look forward to your continuing explorations.
