Liberty caps in Back yard?
    #9429322 - 12/14/08 09:40 AM (15 years, 4 months ago)

So, I come from an area where liberty caps grow, and i think i found a patch in my back yard around october.

They looked exactly like all of the pictures I have seen of P. Semilanceata except they were very dark. I had been keeping an eye on these mushies for a long time, and when i noticed they may be active they were a brown color. The stem was very strong, and when pulled the shroom came out by the roots. A slime layer covered the top of the mushroom, and was hard to get off. A purple/bluish ring was at the top of the stem where it met the cap. They grow on a fertilized lawn, where my dogs poop. Lots of other mushroom species grow here as well.

What are the chances of these being P. Semilanceata? I have never seen brown ones before, but other then the dark color they were exact.

next summer ill get pics if they grow again, as there is a fairly large patch of mycelium in this corner of my yard (lots of food i suppose).

Ps. semilanceata does not have a ring.

Liberty caps grow in fields fertilized with herbivore dung, which appears to be different to carnivore shit. I'd be surprised to find liberty caps in a field of dog turds. Pan. subbs appear to thrive in such an environment though.
