Have you seen the new PC's with the large flat touch-screen monitors?
I know HP makes a few.
That's probably what will replace it.

Again, only if you like reaching up and dragging your fingers across the screen all the time. I'll stick with my mouse as there's less arm strain.

The biggest problem I have with touch screens are that they constantly get smudged. I hate it when people touch my laptop screen when they are pointing at something.

it would depend on the size and quality of the screen. it it were something like in minority report, i could easily see it replacing the mouse and keyboard.
You seriously want to stand up and wave your arms around all day?
i wouldnt mind that one bit.
that would negate todays lazyness on computers. you would burn way more calories that way.

My laptop has 2 integrated mouses. There is the trackpad, which is slow and sucks (most laptops these days seem to ONLY have this for a mouse), and it has a trackpoint.
The trackpoint is basically just a little nub in the middle of the G,H & B keys, which functions like a joystick. It's incredibly fast (and much more accurate than that pad), and whats better, is that I don't need to reposition my hand off my keyboard to mouse around. I can be just as accurate with it with my left hand too.
It is a superior mouse for day to day work, but for drawing figures (and gaming), a traditional mouse I still find better.
The trackpoint is why I will only ever use IBM laptops. Other brands (even new lenovo) seem to only have the shitty trackpad.

I have that on my work laptop (Dell). I hate that thing with a passion, it sucks (as much as a track pad) When I'm coding or writing, I always manage to tap it, thus changing the position of my cursor making me start typing in a random place. Shit messes with my flow.

i have an HP with this same configuration, though i think they were 'built' for our company, as the screen has an HP label on the inside and on back, but the case has a compaq label, so a mix of the parts...

its going to be those things you can hold in your hand and maneuver up and down, as well as use for depth, motions, etc...

Touch screens are fucking stupid, and should only be used for old people.
After an hour your nice clean LCD would be covered in greasy finger prints. Fuck that.

Plus, you can't do single-pixel work with a touch screen. There's no way it's going to be as precise as a mouse.

That looks... terrible. I'll stick with a mouse, thanks. The flashy presentation isn't hiding the fact that it's more awkward than current interfaces.
