remove tin foil
    #9374949 - 12/05/08 09:11 PM (5 years, 8 months ago)

alright so i just inoculated my jars, i used the whole 10 cc in 6 jars i couldn't for some reason just get 1/4 cc in each hole. but i was just wondering if i should remove the tin foil from the jars and just put on micro tape, i have a glove box but right now they are sitting in a completely sterilized drawer that they are sitting in right now. i just loosened up the tin foil so that it's just resting on the jars.

Leave it on.At the stage your at,they need elevated Co2 levels. If you shot thru the foil i would use microtape.

No I didn'r inject through the tin foil so that means I don't have to re apply it. Right? Because I don't know if micropore is self healing or not. But I'm scared for contams even though I don't see how they would have gotten there. I sterilized the pressure cooker and took out the jars in my glove box
Then once they were out I took off the lid put the pressure cooker out ant sprayed everything down with iso91% and closed the lid then I sprayed oust in through the hole.then the next day I inoced. So I think it's clean

Remove the tin foil. Your jars need gas exchange. Too much CO2 will stall growth.

Indirectly quoted from many posts from much more knowledgeable cultivators than myself...
If you have a dry verm layer in the jars there is no need for foil on the lids after boiling or pc-ing.  You actually need gas exchange provided through the inoculation holes and the dry verm acts as a filter.  Sounds like your sterile tek was good so no need to worry and micropore tape on the holes is overkill and can stunt colonization if it hinders GE.

I bit overkill IMO. Gloveboxes dont need to be sterile. You can just wipe down with soapy water, leaving the walls wet to help keep contaminants on the floor.

Transfer your jars and tools, leave 10 minutes and carry out your procudeures.

gloveboxes work on the principle of still air. Contaminants wont be floating around.

You are fine to leave the tinfoil off, you have a dry verm layer which is your contamination barrier. You dont have to keep them in a sterilised sealed area.

You can leave them on a shelf if you want.

cool so i will take off the tin foil i feel pretty safe about the sterility of the drawer they're in, i sprayed the top walls and base with iso and oust again. i just don't want any contams i'm fine with overkill and i think that it's better, that way nothing can escape my hate for the molds that might infest my jars. i love mushies and i want nothing in their way.
how long should it take to see signs that it's growing?
i think 3-4 days but i'm not sure. somebody said that the strain i got was a very fast grower, 4 days till fully colonized and useable and that was after injection. i almost don't believe it but i thought it was worth a try. costa rica is the strain, from sporeworks. thanks

4 days until full colonization? not a chance. you'll probably only see a little mycelium in 4 days, good luck with your upcoming endeavors.
