Thanks allot,
I've got another question, I've heard that when incubating you don't want the temperature to fluctuate, I was gonna use a heater, plugged into a thermometer that turns it on when temps drop below like 80.
Is this wise?

No. If your room temperature is at least 70F, you don't need an incubator at all. If your room temperature is colder, set your incubator at 75 degrees.

Build a glovebox. That's the best sanitary method you can do short of constructing or buying a laminar flowhood.

hi, im a first time grower. i put my colonized cakes, dunked and rolled in my terrerium over one week ago and still no signs of pinning :frown:
half pint cakes are on perlite, i have holes for co2 drainage and a air pump with water stone in water. temperature fluctuates but only slightly between 73 and 78. rh is at least 91%.
everything seems in place but over a week and nothing.

can anybody help me please?

are there air holes under your perlite?  if not put that air stone under the perlite so it can help with air flow through the perlite creating evaporation better humidity.  if you dont want to do that then you have to put holes on the bottom  of your FC.

if that doesnt help mist your cake and perlite then fan fan fan.  FAE(frequent air exchange) is VERY important.  mist and fan alot.  fanning helps dry out the cake which in turn makes the myc want to make mushies to reproduce.  misting helps keep your perlite and verm layer moist.

just thought of something: did you let the cake consolidate(the cake may look 100% done but you wait for the inside to finish and the myc gets a better hold) 1 week b4 you birthed it?  that may be the reason for stall.  give it another week b4 you worry.IMO

everything else seems alright.

remember patience is the key.

www.mushroomvideos.com ; best tek for cakes  pf tek.  watch all 4 parts.

good luck.

thanks, i dont have holes in the bottom, just in all four sides. i'll get on that right away. unfortunately i dont have time to fan frequently. maybe add another air pump or a larger one? the one i have is quite small in a 45litre FC. maybe i'm just gunna have to make more time to fan them. or maybe if i have a desk fan on a timer permanently facing the FC to push fresh air in the ventilation holes. good idea?
i did allow for consolidation, around 6 days.
patience is a vertue i struggle with. learning curve is steep

thanks

your guide answered all of my questions except one.
Where can i get the spores?
There are many websites out there, but could an experienced cultivator point me towards one that is reputable?

all vendors here in shroomery are the best.  there is a vendor forum here also.

my personal fav is www.ralphstersspores.com

when you place an order ask for S.O.T.M (strain of the month) you get a freebie.

it only took 5 days to get my order.

and dont think you have to see spores for it to work.  all syringes Ive ever used are crystal clear and I have had zero complaints.

good luck.

well when the majority of them hit maturity and are picked, I pull the remaining stragglers and the second flushes pins, to my understanding are set to a degree.  Then there is about 4-7 days of downtime.

Hyphae's pinning strategy explains this in better detail.
