SUPER MEGA MUSHROOM?

I wonder how long it will take to get strong keeper as to put in mother stock[lc]. Are all mushies pretty average [height, width, potency]or is there super mega mushroom subspecies hidden in the genes somewhere? Should i just stop with above average results or keep searching endlessly looking for that less than 1% SUPER MEGA SHROOM?? I wonder if endless sectoring and cloning will eventually end up with a hidden gene for super mega mushroom.??

HOLY CRAP, see thats what i'm talking about. that kicks fucking ass, good one how long did it take you to breed that bad girl. how many spore prints > sectoring > isolating did that take. wow. did you just keep breeding tell you found this? was this your main goal or did you just happen to come across the genes. wow. what lights are they under what thickness is the substrate to casing? average thickness? thats nuts.

South American are extremely large growing cubensis....Pink Buffalo, Kou Thai Samui and Orissa are a handful of cubensis name sakes that produce large fruits pretty consistently.
The largest fruit I've ever gotten was something like 17-18g's dry... kou thai samui to rye/straw/manure compressed into a zip lock and fruited in a TiT.... the more moisture in the air, the bigger they'll grow in mass

That looks like it has to be B+ strain. They get real tall.
Menaces SA is prolly a freak came from another dimension. Not typical at all. It's like hitting the woods and spotting a 30 point buck, with drop tines all about.
Most cubensis will look the same as other strains, there are some that tend to get pretty large though. Evidently, south american gets pretty big. I know for sure B+ and Golden Teacher, Ecuador can get real massive. Penis envy gets dense and thick. The smaller strains, i believe are the SouthEast Asian strains like Thai and Pink Buffalo.
Your best bet on obtaining a monstrosity shroom, is to get some horsepoop, coir, straw, verm, ready for bulk. Spawn some rye to it, make it real deep in a large monotub about 8 inches maybe. Get some agar. Isolate the biggest shroom, and you can make a flush out of nothing but big shrooms.

What he said, just follow those steps and keep cloning the biggest mushroom you get and eventually you'll have nothing but giants.

Cloning is good for the short term, but in the long term you're not going to get better and better quality mushrooms with cloning... or even multispore noc's (if you're always using spores from the same parent or clone... If you want to try and breed a superior mush, you need spore from multiple sources, especially wild if you can so you're sure they're not related... and you need to get the different sourced spores to mate... Variety is the spice of life as the say, and although the genetic inbreeding we see so much of in the mushroom community isn't as noticeable as in animals, it does eventually show it's ugly face.

you can guide mushroom genetics in the direction of the traits you like by takeing prints over many generations from the fruits that have the traits you want to become more common.

Yep, he broke shit, stumbled around, kicked shit, screamed, yelled, freaked out, then spent the remainder of the night in the bathroom... probably crying and wishing to come down worst part was... It was his buddies house, not his own.

You sure can... I've done it. the process takes a minimum of 6 months, but can always take longer
Yeah 1 guy ate the whole thing... well actually more like drank in 60 seconds.

In order to grow larger mushrooms your going to have to find a set of genetics that allows for large fruits.
Big booms are a handfull of work to create the isolate with the traits you want and also having the nutrient base and water to allow said genetics to produce to the fullest of their potential.

Thats crazy.Ive never heard of anybody ever overdosing on shrooms but Ive also not heard of many ppl doing that much at once.3 grams is my max and anymore than that and things tend to go south.

when you isolate or clone you are removing variables and have less substrains to choose from. . it will take many generations but it can be done. if you want big caps- keep taking prints from fruits with big caps every generation. when you reach large sized caps over all- then clone a super big one or clone it to agar - isolate each substrain in the fruit and then grow each out and fruit them to see which isolate is responsable for your monster fruit.

yes! you can have perfect genetics for huge badboys: but if you have a weak substrate and poor growing conditions they may end up small. just like humans. no food - small

That makes 2 of us.... I like doing agar work, and experimenting in crossing/hybridizing I have more than 1 good monoculture that can produce some serious monsters I have found an awesome nutrient base/substrate recipe and couldnt be happier with my consistent results.
Alto I am constantly working on something new too.

you are not correct sir. you can improve the genetics in the direction of any trait you wish by takeing prints from the fruits with said trats over many generations - reducing the variation of multispore. . so yes it can be done easy . it just takes time. once you have a batch of big ones: then you clone or isolate the substrains in the largest fruit.

damn, judging by reactions there...
none of you have seen many if any prints near that large... I have a wild azure print here that 3.5 inches across... and a few others that are large. Wollongong thats another one I have thats like 3.5-4" across
personally shroomy I like to see the ones like you sent me... so thick it can be seen thru the foil after the mail gets its grubby little hands on it

seven said: you can guide mushroom genetics in the direction of the traits you like by takeing prints over many generations from the fruits that have the traits you want to become more common.
Is it really that simple? I thought you had to clone and isolate and whatnot.
when you isolate or clone you are removing variables and have less substrains to choose from. . it will take many generations but it can be done. if you want big caps- keep taking prints from fruits with big caps every generation. when you reach large sized caps over all- then clone a super big one or clone it to agar - isolate each substrain in the fruit and then grow each out and fruit them to see which isolate is responsable for your monster fruit.
IMHO you can do this (and i'm sure you have as you say), but what you should notice as generations go on is a degradation in vitality known as senecense. All life needs new genetic material to carry on with superiority, and they are not going to achieve this through their own personal spore-bank, they need to cross with spores from another source.
That's one reason why they produce so many billions of spores. The chances of them mating with themselves is not ideal and they need to carry away to other sources of genetic material.
You can read a little about what I'm refering to in Paul Stamet's book "Growing Gourmet and Medicinal Mushrooms" P.91 under clong wild vs cultivated mushrooms. Here's a link to on online version of the book through Google.

no no... RE's got a point. and a valid one at that
but in regards, he was speaking in terms of spores and not tissue "clones" I do believe that starting from spores is starting from the very beginning, regardless of said source of the spores

this process of takeing prints from your largest fruits like you said will work for narrowing genetics in your favor. this inbreeding so to speak can cause loss of vigor. but i doubt this will happen before you reach your goal. mixing spores from different sources of the same strain would be a great starting point for a project like this. possibly you will get larger genetics from one of the other sources. a side by side grow with two different sources then when you reach large fruifruits in each grow operation, mix the spores from the largest fruits to add variation of the large kind to the mix. this can be used if you are concerned about weaking of the genetics.

Now that sounds like plan Then if with each so many subsequent crops you could add some new genetics, I think you would start to get some bad ass shrooms.

Thats the same thing I have been telling people for a long time now. wait to see the second flush to see the caps, the 3rd-4thand 5th flushes will always produce the monsters

dude, I have an old casing in here... actually its the one that I used to grow the mushrooms used to print for the giveaway (i know i kno... call it laziness) Its litterally like 6 months old, no mushrooms have grown off of it, i dont fan/mist it and pretty much just leave it alone Still no contaminates... tho now its dry and shriveled

so I know about hybrid vigor in plants. f1. i like em i grow em. they're 25% bigger and stronger. fact. Now if i was to isolate over the next 6 months a South American and one pink buffalo{b3,PE, whatever}. keeping the two separate, so they don't cross prematurely.I'll isolate each strain creating the most monster one i can. at that point I'll cross SUPER MEGA SHROOM with SUPER MEGA SHROOM and end up with a vigorous SUPER MEGA SHROOM. RIGHT.? then at that point go for a bigun again and isolate and stuff. But stop way before senescence or loss of vigor. comments?

Just do lots and lots of multispore grows on cakes, and when you come across a strain that fruits large on a cake, clone and isolate it and grow it on a better substrate. Then take the largest fruits you get and clone and isolate them.

i was speaking of doing side by side grows of the same strain from 2 diferent sources.keep both separate over many generations using spores from the largest fruit. once you notice a generation with all large fruits in both grows. mix the largests spore prints from both grows togather. the keep it goin as one grow. mixing the prints would revive vigor in the grow by adding variation:of the large kind:.. . no isolation yet. isolate when you reach your goal of a monster fruit. find the substrain responsable for the large gennnetics in the fruit and you will have a monster isolate. we werent talking about mixing diferent strains.

There's more nutrients in brown rice than in poo or coir or any of that stuff. Shrooms are just smaller on cakes because cakes aint that big.

I think this would be a great project. The only problem I see is that it's not as easy to cross the two strains as just putting the spores from the two sources into the same media. They may mate, but you'de never know for sure, especially with a swab of spores.
I'm sure others here know much more about it then me, but a method I've read about and plan on trying is making dilutions of the spores. You would take a small amount of spores, and mix it with say 10cc (1 syringe worth) of sterile water... You would then use a few drops of that to mix a whole other syringe. From there you would streak some of the secondary diluted spore water over some agar plates.
I commented on this once before in a little more detail here: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/8932110#Post8932110
And I found the book online (full version and all I was surprised) You can read about it here:
Mushroom Cultivator: A Practical Guide to Growing Mushrooms at Home

seems like having equal portions of each source of spores in a regular syringe (non-diluted but not dark) and inoculated into a grain jar would give highest chances of mating between the two sources of the same strain.
