Isolate the potentially contaminated jar?
    #9211905 - 11/09/08 01:29 PM (15 years, 5 months ago)

During the inoculation process, SWIMs needle came loose without knowing and the polyfil became wet as the plunger was pressed down.  This was the  fourth to last jar and the needle was simply screwed on and used again as the environment was fairly clean.  Fearing contamination, SWIM dried the polyfil and put the jar aside while the others went into the incubator.

After three days at 68-70 degrees, the isolated jar hasnt shown any signs of growth or contamination whereas all the jars in the TiT have.  SWIM is considering either throwing the isolated jar back into the TiT along with the others or keeping it in a closet away from the others for a few months, just to see what may happen.  Any suggestions?

I wouldn't worry about that. Your jars aren't going to spread contams to one another with a verm barrier. I would just label it and keep it in the TIT, I doubt you'll have any trouble.

Sorry, I should've clarified that SWIM is actually using WBS.

No problem, man.  Reading around, I think the safest thing to do is for SWIM to leave it outside (68-70 F) of the incubator (80 F) as there's only one.  If anyone has any suggestions, please feel free to suggest

Ask SWIM to post his own threads... it'd be a lot easier, and we wouldn't have to trouble you to pass messages to SWIM!

No harm in leaving it outside.

If it isn't contaminated it should just take longer.

But chances are no solution got inside, it all squirted out onto the polyfill.
