I am hoping to use Tincture of Iodide instead of Melzers Reagent for IDing and have some questions: I just bought some Iodides tincture USP (Decolorized Iodine). The active ingredients are: "Alcohol 45% denatured with ammonia and Ammonium and Potassium Iodides." Will this work the same as regular Tincture of Iodine? Is there any difference between 2% and 7% Tincture of Iodine? Thanks for the help oh wise and whimsical toadstool testers.
Decolorized means it will not stain, so no, it will not work the same as regular iodine. There has been a prohibition by certain companies in certain states on selling iodine because of its link to the production of Methamphetamine.
The difference between 2% and 7 % is 5%. I'm not sure why you asked that.
