I agree, IMO nothing beats putting on a few choice Dead albums on repeat, for me it seems to be like a roller-coaster. Certain songs initiate certains emotions and feelings that I cannot seem to get from any other type of music.
Most listeners don't like the song, "What's become of the baby", but for me that is such a deep and powerfully emotional song. Grateful Dead is a tripping staple for me.

there's some aphex twin that might send you into a bad trip. I don't know what to (not) recommend but just a warning.

Whatever turns you on...
Glad someone mentioned Hawkwind. Space Ritual always does the trick for me when tripping
OK. Warrior On The Edge Of Time is also excellent.
You're not a Captain Beefheart fan are you?
Now you have got me going...
Six Suites for Unaccompanied Cello by Johann Sebastian Bach played by Maria Kliegel takes me to another universe.
Most stuff by Jean Luc-Ponty. Buffalo Springfield. Dire Straits first album. Talking Heads - Stop Making Sense. John Mayall - Turning Point. Secret Garden - self titled.
The list could go on, and on...

As far as goa/psytrance goes it's awesome, but Infected Mushroom does a pretty great job of totally missing the point and not doing much but purposely bugging me out, with nothing behind the bug-out.
Here's some streaming radio stations that are amazing for tripping, if you like doing it around a computer:
The Buzzout Room http://www.buzzoutroom.com/listen64.pls
Triplag (Shamanic Trance) http://www.triplag.com/webradio/darkpsy/
Triplag ChillTrips http://www.triplag.com/webradio/chilltrip/

I strongly recommend Extacy by DJ Tiesto. This is a fucking brilliant song. Of course make for X but fuck that. This song will trip you out especially if you have a visualization to go with it. (G-Force for Windows Media Player)

Tiesto is the most bland DJ imaginable
and if you like G-Force you really, really, REALLY ought to try Milkdrop for WinAMP. Here's some screenshots
G-Force can not touch Milkdrop.

Infected Mushroom is great, as is Astral Projection and (of coarse) the immortal Shpongle/Simon Posford. Boards of Canada isn't bad; I should look into them again.

Pitch Black(nz), Bluetech, Shulman, Carbon Based Lifeforms, Entheogenic, Angel Tears, Evan Marc (if you can find his albums [same guy that is in Bluetech]), OTT, Hol Bauman, Ulrich Schnauss. I love electronica, and definitely while tripping. The first 5 are awesome. Oh, there's also Phutureprimitive, I met him the other night. Good guy. There's tons of great electronic music if you want to go that route.

these albums are very good for a tripping playlist, and are all for the most part on the mellow side with some other stuff thrown in for variety. very psychedelic; enjoy!

IDK. Eat static is a little heavy for my taste. I like this:

... I have crash and burn. Perhaps it's different. Did you listen to my clip? The stuff I listen to is far more fluid and flowy. Much more organic. You should check it out. (Sorry, my isp suck fucking donkey balls)

i've heard it before quite some time ago. it was good and i still give some tracks a listen from time to time. every planet we reach is dead was my favorite. i'm into more ambient psychedelic stuff these days, though.

i didnt really like crash and burn. you should check out back to earth. its very very well produced, got some world influence in there, and some very mellow chillout/jazzy type tracks too. one of the best chill albums to come out this year if you ask me.
i couldn't play that track... the clip no worky for me.
