KNOPPIX for surfing, Debian installed for everything else.
I'm ordering Slackware CD's now after reading this thread though, I'll check it out.

Do you get a working flashplayer or other media codecs/players for web surfing with KNOPPIX?

I love the new Ubuntu, but firefox 3, flash, and external sound card is always a bitch to get going after an install.

I would bale on it if there was a working solution that allowed full web browsing without a lot of set up work.

Peace...

Not with the CD version of KNOPPIX 5.1.1, I use the CD version just so I can copy the CD to RAM, and still use the CD drive, and for safe and fast surfing and forum reading/posting.  The DVD "maxi" edition ~8GB, may have the media codecs. I haven't tried that yet.

don't know about knoppix, but I got this working pretty easily in arch.  Just install firefox, then a program called yaourt, which i just a pacman wrapper for source/binaries in the AUR repository.  Then from your user login, use

yaourt -Sy nspluginwrapper
yaourt -Sy nspluginwrapper-flash

done.  This is for 64bit, but for 32bit there really is no extra work to do, just install browser, then install flash.

peace
