Most will probably survive, as large numbers of poppies are able to congregate in one place.

poppy seedlings don't like to be disturbed much...
especially if they are very thickly planted, if the roots are damaged while you split them up it is usually the end for some.

however, it is much better to split them and lose some than leave them growing too closely.

i've never had any trouble starting them in pots and then planting out later though, so long as you only have a few in each pot, no problem

THat pot will support 1 mature poppy plant if you're lucky.  It's probably too small for a proper plant.

I managed transplanting twice during my poppies growth, you just have to be very gentle and to sow them in individual pots to stop the roots entwining with one another.

I got an Idea Amberica, before it's too late.Go get you some plastic dixie cups, fill em with a good soil mix.I like to use half Florida sand, and half potting mix.Fill the cups up with your soil mix,and gently take a tooth pick, and very carefully pull up your seedlings with it.put one seedling in each cup,and You'll have a lot better chance of getting lovely flowers, and pods.I have my new poppy seedlings out in full sun,and it's late enough in the season, where you can do so.My buddy CPW,has grown full grown poppies in dixie cups, but I would put them in the ground when they get big enough, because that strain I sent you gets really big,and a few of them will get neck tall.

I'll put 4 or so in dixie cups momentarily then, let them get a bit higher and plant.
Thanks for the advise.

Oh yeah Amberica, that's the way to do it.Let em grow on those cups for a couple of months, and then throw them in the ground. You'll get tons of pods from those plants.I got roughly 20 pods per plant with that strain, and actually, mine wouldn't die,and just kept on pushing out more pods.I went ahead and pulled them all up.That means,I started mine in October, and they were still flowering in May.I've never grown any poppy that flowered for that long, ever.Keep good care of em;)

Thats one pretty plant. A collector I know has tons of it, they look great when they grow fat. Nice yellow flowers too.
