had a total stinker of a day today.
to cut a long story short,i must have been to eager to get out the door that i forgot to take painkillers for my back, which is totally knackered at the moment.
got of a bus in the country and walked for about 50 Min's before i realized.the pain kicked in while i was trying to walk up a beast of a hill.
that 50mins getting their took me about 3 hours to get back to the bus stop.
total nightmare, even if i would have seen anything i wouldn't have been able to pick it up,lol, couldn't even look down the pain was that bad,i was walking blindly thru cow shit and allsorts, falling all over the place and grabbing jaggy nettles, lol,i was like something out of fecking Monty Python or something, lol.
i can laugh about it now but it wasn't funny at the time.

Just found an old vial of 10x organic salvia I thought I'd lost! Haven't seen this for ages. Might try some again soon! Heavy, heavy stuff...

Hopefully not this person is way more truthful than the other gooses

We will see though - rains on its way so hit up the field next week me thinks!  Worst than can happen is a nice long soggy walk and a waste of fuel getting there.

SUCCESS

Hello one and all, after many sporadic and fruitless missions over the last 10 years I finally found some mushrooms.  252 to be precise.  Yesterday I went to the south peak district on a vague tip off and stumbled into four fields in a row that had mushrooms in them.  Three of us picked for about 4 hours and got 252 shrooms so we're absolutely buzzinnnnnn!!!!!  We found them on a fairly steep south facing slope that was cow pastures.  We will be going back to these fields in the not to distant future I'm sure!  We were a little worried as it was very cold on Sunday night but it was a beautiful monday morning.  All the Libs we found seemed fairly old.  I have some questions.

I am assuming that 250 libs by three people in 4 hours isn't that great a return but clearly these fields have potential.  Can we expect many more from these fields throughout October or do you think the conditions were good enough last week and this is the sorts of numbers we should expect to find from this in future missions?

How significant is the South Facing slope?  Is this more beneficial later in the season i.e. when it gets colder.  I'm thinking frosts may not be as damaging on these fields that get the early morning sun bang on their face?

I'm tempted to look at other fields but it's a two and a half hour drive for us so tempted just to go back to these fields again and again!

Any way check out these photos

pins will grow to maturity in 24 hours, no problem... but it is always best to give your field at least a days break between picking, look after your field and it will look after you for years to come :yesnod:

With my new found fields I wanted to share some observations in relation to the hilly terrain.  These four fields seemed to have more mushrooms at the top and bottom than in the middle and not so many on the steep bits.  I could be reading too much into this but I was wondering if this was normal or if anyone could explain?  Also one field was much better than the others.  I guess this is normal.  If we had gone to other similar fields a few miles away would we have found as many, given that the conditions were the same?  Or were we just lucky.  Also as to be expected there were many other varieties of mushrooms on this hill but I would say 70 - 80% were liberty caps.  We were literally bouncing around finding them everywhere with not many other varieties is this what other people have experienced?  Are they that common?.  It was an amazing rush and I can't wait to trip off them in an equally beautiful spot!
