Anyone know a humane way to poison a cat(s)?
    #8964746 - 09/21/08 07:57 PM (6 years, 6 months ago)

As an animal-lover, shooting sick/unwanted cats & kittens repulses me, no matter how unattractive they are.

I researched a bit & found that someone (I think the government) was working on making a genetically-engineered E. Coli bacterium that doesn't negatively effect the health of a cat, but attaches something somewhere in the reproductive organ(s) that renders them sterile for life (I don't remember if it was for male or female cats, or both maybe). They were doing this because apparently there are something like 40-50 million stray cats in the U.S. This would be perfect to solve any future problems for me, but it's not available yet.

I was thinking of something like a poisonous food (whether made that way by a company or inserted by me) that would provide them a painless death. I suppose an opiate or ketamine would work if you could put them into some meat. Anybody have any knowledge or experience on this, or know of any available products on the market so I can save the time of having to research LD50s & whip up some concoction myself & experiment?

Well they certainly wouldn't feel it. Maybe a bit messy and grotesque, but still painless.

Then don't post a response, dumbass. I wrote it for the probably small number of people who might have an answer because they work in the field of veterinary or something.

Yeah, I've done that to tomcats once or twice before, but if there is something easily available & pretty cheap, I'd prefer to do that, especially for kittens.
