So then guys do we be finding them mushies yet? Few freinds of mine went hunting yesterday and found a few but not enough for a trip.
Started to hear reports of them popping up like a week ago now though, suprises me but who knows things have been getting colder round here lately.
So what are your pickings like?

im new to the mushroom hunting game but i went out today and had a quick look around and have found what looks to be some liberty caps. i don't want to take any risks and i know this doesnt follow strict forum rules but could i do a quick informal ID here.
i found them in the midlands, worcestershire.
i know that the chances are that 100% arnt libs. just want to know if i'm not completely wrong. i can take a spore print soon, just waiting on it. some done have nipples and they wernt slimy but i presume thats because i picked at around 6pm when after no rain. they're not bruising blue though.

You're completely wrong. None of those are libs. Those look like pan. foenisecii. Check for black prints, you may have the odd pan. subbalteatus in there, but chances are you don't.
Heed uarewotueat's advice: wait till temps drop till <15C (~5C during nights). No libs to be found right now, I'm afraid.
(I'm sorry to sound like a jerk, but nofi, really. Keep it up.)

Btw, see how the stems kink? Liberty caps stems won't do that and will generally be much lighter in color. Also the nipples of liberty caps will be somewhat glassy or translucent when wet. Go out lib hunting as soon as it gets colder (second half of Sept., typically) and go in the morning, that'll make it easier to tell them apart from inactive pans.

they are pans of some sort, i find them growing with liberty caps in all the fields i pick... so your territory is probably about right
i'll often find 100's of those disgarded in a pile in the lib fields... newbie hunters picking the wrong ones and then realising later

They look like Panaeolus campanulatus more than foes or subbs to me. Either way foe spore prints can look pretty black, I can only tell the diff when I have a foe and a subb print side by side

All signs are good for an early season for parts of the UK. Forecast is for more rain and coolish temps (for the time of year). If the wet weather continues into September its going to be a very shroomy autumn!
