I usually pick sum and leave a few, smaller closed cap ones are more potent this is a fact. Eat about 7-10 small closed cap weilii and your in for a ride. Weilii pins are huge though, or i should say they can be huge. Most of the pins i find are 2-3 inches tall and thick as hell, but i guess if i were hunting smaller mushrooms i would leave the pins. I leave the pins when im hunting active pans, since they are so small but. Also the heat in the south usually cooks them and the high humidity is not good either it can cause mold to grow on them, so if they are in a patch that gets good shade ill leave them but if there in a burly patch i take them all.

There was a few pins I decided to leave today. They may still contribute to the overall psilocybin amount but I do (however illogical) still prefer to leave them to grow up...it just makes me feel, well, greedy...

I always leave sum, but i usually leave the older more mature ones so they can drop spores and make my patch bigger.

Think about it, the smaller ones are more potent so leave the big ones to keep the mycelium healthy and to drop spore. Bigger ones are usually less potent because of being exposed to the elements longer than the younger ones.

Larger ones are less potent since they have been exposed to more sunlight, water, bugs, etc. All of these things break down psilocybin and cause the mushrooms to become weaker.

That's a good pint actually, there seems to be a trend with them annoying maggots crawling around under the caps of larger specimens.
But wouyldn't the psilocybin be distributed around more hence more of it?

Just to add to this I found about 30 semilanceata today. Had to look hard for them though; they aren't out in abundance. (N Ireland)

I see these little larvae buggers all the time, they usually end up dead somewhere when the libs dry out.

all pasture mushroom i have picked have them in them. The actives in the forest ive found are not like that, they never get those. They are gnawed upon by slugs occasionally but nothing inside them, when i pick pan. subbs i find those little guys. Ive notice you can tell a good one to pick by the amounts of bugs in it. When you pick a mushroom and its not that firm feeling it has been munched upon by larvae, but if its firm there are usually no larvae or only a small number, 1 or 2 and those can be easily removed.

weird, cos i always find them in woodland mushrooms here, especially the amanita's... they usually have dozens of the little buggers by the time they are mature

First time picker this year from down in Dorset! Was hoping to get some last year but I'd just missed the season.
Hoping to find some Libs in the sort of wooded marshlands near me, I think I'll wait a couple of weeks yet to try it though, it's still pretty warm down here at times.
