I don't think those are libs.

It's August now so I suppose officially Liberty Cap season has started (at least so says my book). My first year hunting... been scouting out potential hunting grounds near me (I live in S. Wales).
Luckily I am within walking distance of large areas of pastures, farmland, heathland, moorland etc which look tasty. I hear S. Wales is well regarded for Liberty Caps so hopefully the Gods will be kind. If we have a good bit of rain and cool weather I think I'll head up to the moors on the mountain and see if I can find my first lib. Weather forecast is looking pretty good so fingers crossed ey? Any other Taff hunters about?

Panaeolus Foenisecii maybe? Some of those on my lawn. Spore printed them and came out brown rather than the dark purplish brown of libs. Definitely don't look like libs anyway.

Good to see this topic in the first page!
Last year was my first year of picking and it was pretty dam succesfull, very excited about this year!
I'm going camping in North Wales at the end of August, just wondering if there is any truth in rumours about libs popping up in N.Wales from early August?
Any ideas?

I suppose you might find them in the uplands of any part of Wales in August. With the right weather of course. If we have a good bit of rain and cooler weather this week (which looks likely) then I'll take a walk up to the mountain near me, nearly 1,500 ft ASL. All moorland/heathland, sheep, might find a couple.

Cheers man, let me know how you get on. Taking the dog with me so planning on doing a lot of walking, finding libs this early in the year would make one happy camper.....so to speak!

This thread has been closed.
Reason: 2009 UK season is over.
Someone needs to start a 2010 UK thread with pictures of this years finds.
