Injecting cakes w/ water
    #8766018 - 08/13/08 02:19 AM (6 years, 1 month ago)

Using an insulin syringe. The syringe and needle are very very small, compared to the spore syringes you can get from sponsors. This shouldn't hurt the cake right? Main thing is the needle itself is about a centimeter long, so would the water even get deep enough into the cake to benifit it?

no man the water content is about right.. Just when the fruits start to get a bit bigger there can be some blue action going on in small areas, so i was thinking of injecting distilled water straight into the blue. Blue spots on my cakes are gonna happen, i use 1/4 pint they dry out quicker. Sometimes the shrooms look as fat/large as the cake and since they are 90% water you can imagine how much moisture it's using.

the blue spots are from bruising.

You can slowly inject water, but it will still take 24 hours or so for the the injected water to make its way into the individual cells.  I'd suggest placing the fruiting cake into a saucer of water overnight if it starts to dry out.

Yeah man that's what i do when more than 5% of the cake is blue.  This isn't bruising btw I didn't touch the cake for several days, it's just 1 or 2 pea sized blue areas, around the top corners. Usually near the fruitbodies after they get big.  Anywhom those have been picked, I injected water into each blue spot and also set them on a plate with water. Kept them in the FC so they'd have high humidity.
