CapnSkoo said: So I just pulled my WBS 1/2 pints from the PC and it looks like more grain split open. I assume this is okay. I'm gonna inoculate in the morning in my glovebox. Planning on casing 1.5 pints into a 12x7 cakepans with hpoo/straw. These i will place into my shotgun fc's for fruiting. I still see no colonization in my brf jars. But in the eventuality that the WBS and BRF finish colonizing at the same time i'll just leave the BRF cakes in the dunk until the WBS is spent. Any other input guys?
No need to worry yet on BRF colonization, but just curious as to where you got your spores, and what strain?
The straight WBS substrate pics are very interesting, Doc, thanks!

Got my spores from Hawks Eye. B+ and Golden Teacher Excellent service. And I'm really not expecting any visual signs in the BRF jars for several more days. Soo..... time to wait again. Gonna start some rye berries next weekend. Seems I've got jars and syringes coming out the demonhole. Best use 'em up and stay busy. I suppose in a few weeks I'll be REAL busy.

Seeing signs of growth wouldn't be out of the question, but like I said nothing to worry about. Thanks for the feedback on Hawk's Eye.

I got my shipment days ahead of schedule and received prompt replies to my emails. Took another look at my jars. The ones knocked on the 25th are starting to take off. Small 1-2mm spots on the side of the jars at the inoculation points. We'll see.

Sorry to derail the thread but this goes back to the first questions the OP had. I've got some WBS jars cooking right now. I punched a single hole in the middle of the lid quart jars metal lid, placed that on the jar along with a single layer of tyvek and secured it down with the metal band. When I go to inoculate the jars, what would be the best means of covering the whole the needle punched through the tyvek?

Ok, is it bad that I get the tyvek wet with 70% alcohol before I apply the micropore tape? I've had some issues with contamination before. I'm not sure if it was the LC syringe I made up, the sterilization techniques I used for inoculation or what. See: this thread. Thanks!

I've never used tyvek and haven't had problems with contamination. *knock on wood*
But I love using WBS. So efficient, cheap, and quick.

make separate silicone self-healing injection points. That way you don't need to touch your tyvek/micropore tape.

Knocked up my 6 1/2 pint jars of WBS this morning with B+. I think I'm seeing some colonization in one of my BRF's but it could just be a piece of verm pressed up against the glass. Goin huntin fro hpoo tonight. Its been somewhat dry here lately so I should come home with a fairly significant haul. Also, if I wanted to pasturize in the field how long would this hpoo keep? I'm kinda worried about the smell. I do live in an apartment building. Input?

I inoculated 4 jars of TEX in WBS four days ago and I have seen no signs of growth. I have no clue what I did wrong. I am so confused, I filled 2/3 of WBS in 4 qt jars and PC'd the jars for an hour each. I had low moisture content, and inoculated them in the perfect setting. I flame sterilized my syringe between each jar and 1-2 cc's of TEX in each jar. At least that's what it should have been, is it normal to receive the syringe with the spores already in the syringe ready to inoculate?
Well anyways it has been 4 days now and I see no signs of anything. The temp is at 85 degrees and what seems like was a sure thing is turning into a lost cause
any suggestions???

I took this from the exact post you made in the other thread.
4 days???? COME ON DUDE!!! hahaha I'm just saving you from the abuse you may get - cuz 4 days is NOTHING.
Also 85 is TOO HIGH and will slow down growth AND promote contams. Get it at or below 80. GO for 75 to be safe, cuz you'll notice no diff.
And I really hope you Pressure cooked those WBS.

Dude? I've no idea what went wrong for you. These are my friends jars 20 hours after inoculation:
Oh, I forgot to say that after inocculating the WBS jars, she used the oven tek to incubate them for 6 hours at 350F, since the warmer the medium is, the quicker the spores will germinate and grow. After the 6 hours, she shut the oven off and waited overnight.
I guess keep waiting?

I thought it was light hearted given all the info otherwise.
What ended up working for me was making an injection port using RTV gasket sealant in the middle of the lid and a small cluster of wholes on the outer side, covering them with tyvek and securing them down with micropore tape.
Then just flame the needle between each injection, making sure you wipe down the lid with alcohol, and you should be golden, and be patient! Also a still air box is your best friend.

Did you do any soaking of your WBS? You didn't mention that.

Please don't spread those kind of shinanigans, (for lack of a nicer word), around here. Someone might take it as if it was the ttruth.
