WBS TEK Questions

A few WBS TEKs Ive read state to use polyfill/tyvek/coffee filter combo for contam control. Could i just inoculate in a glovebox and top the holes with the micropore tape I already have? Would this be sufficient enough to keep the nasties out? Thanks Guys.

Plus, I'm a hands on visual learner so all this reading of conflicting and dated TEKs is causing my brain to overheat. I learned more watching RR's videos in those few minutes than I ever did spending hours reading TEKs. I'm gonna ask questions because it helps me understand.

Micropore works fine, but I recommend using tyvek. Micropore tends to lift every once in a while due to moisture and what have you. Tyvek is free at the local post office and is just kick ass!

Yea, they usually have a nice stack of them around the mailing area. Don't go crazy or anything. One envelope yields 10 perfect circles, (Five on each side). I visit my local Post office once a week and take about 5 envelopes. If your interested search the posts and see what others have to say about it. I absolutely love it.

I personally think doing both tyvek and polyfill is overkill. I just stuff some poly into the wholes. Its really cheap or free and doesn't require cutting and its real minimal.

Well thanks guys. I've got my WBS in a pot soaking to allow the germination of endospores per instructions in Docs WBS TEK. Seems like a good TEK. I've got some BRF jars going but I want at least one flush by the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally which is the first weekend in Aug. Do yall think this is realistic? I've read that WBS half/pints can be ready to case or spawn in as little as 14 days and as long as 28 days. Whatdyall think?

You'll get a flush out of the BRF before then if that's what you're asking. With the WBS, it's always hard to say how long it will take you to be ready for spawn, plus how long the spawn run itself will take. But I'd say August is realistic, though optimistic.

I started the BRF with multi-spore on the 24th and 25th. Havent noticed any real signs of colonization yet but i expected that. I've read that BRF cakes take longer to colonize than WBS. Plus the jars started on the 25th were a little denser and perhaps wetter. I'm planning this next run on WBS and the one after that, rye berries. Also, i built several RR Shotgun FC's for the cakes. Would it be better to bulk spawn the WBS in HPOO/Straw into Mono's or could i use the shotguns just as well?

fruiting from strait wbs is not worth the time. Spawn to bulk but go at a higher ratio 1:4 to speed up colonization. And grains if done right will reach 100% colonization faster than cakes.

BRF takes a little longer to fully colonized in my experience as well, but not by too much time compared to WBS (maybe a week tops?).

Those casings were straight WBS cased with coir.
The advantage to casing WBS straight is that you do not have to wait for the substrate to fully colonize. This can/will knock off a substantial amount of time from your grow. About 2 weeks of time. Using straight WBS if prepared properly(as in Doc's Wild Bird Seed Tek), inoculated from a LC, straight cased with coir only, can and will give you fruits in less than 21 days!(safely speaking) Or at least that is how it is in Doc's world. Straight casing WBS is the fastest way to fruits plain and simple. The only downside to doing it this way is the size of the fruits. They appear to be quite small on the first flush, but, do get a lot larger with consecutive flushes as in the last 3 pics above, which were on the second flush, compared to the first pics, which were on their first flush. Other than that, I like to use straight grains when I am in need of shroom fix and need it quick,
If you use a LC, your grain jars should colonise in 6-10 days(quarts). If you use a Multi-spore inoculation your grain jars should reach full colonization in about 10-20 days. If you straight case your grains(as a substrate) you should see fruits in about 14 to 21 days. If you spawn your grains to a substrate such as straw/poo you should see fruits in about 21-30 days.
My two pennies.

So I just pulled my WBS 1/2 pints from the PC and it looks like more grain split open. I assume this is okay. I'm gonna inoculate in the morning in my glovebox. Planning on casing 1.5 pints into a 12x7 cakepans with hpoo/straw. These i will place into my shotgun fc's for fruiting. I still see no colonization in my brf jars. But in the eventuality that the WBS and BRF finish colonizing at the same time i'll just leave the BRF cakes in the dunk until the WBS is spent. Any other input guys?
