LSD/Mushrooms and DMT

Okay so Ive never smoked DMT but Im extremely interested in this substance. From the stories Ive heard it is basically everything you could ever want from a psychedelic (aside from brevity). My question is: are the visuals more like those on high doses of mushrooms (i.e. alien worlds, vast cities and hybrid races of machines and identifiable plant species from mars) or high doses of LSD (i.e. abstract geometrical beauty, greek architecture and arabian tapestries)?
Also does anyone recommend drinking it over smoking? If you drink enough does it resemble anything akin to smoking it?

Some rather like the short duration of the experience. I'd imagine with the most powerful psychedelic known to man the experience is long enough.
Joe Rogan once described it as Mushrooms x 1,000,000 + Aliens
I like that.

DMT is the ultimate. The visuals on LSD and mushrooms are both contained within the DMT experience. Those two hallucinogens, mushrooms and LSD, are very similar to DMT visually.
DMT visuals go further however. When you have a thought on LSD, you can watch the mechanics of your consciousness pull memories and other information from an apparent mental network of information storage.
A similar thing happens on DMT, except within a split second, and with a deeper clarity and much deeper sense of actuality. DMT is like LSD and mushrooms with the overhead light turned on, so you can see into the cracks and corners, into the details of expanded consciousness that are usually hidden on the more common hallucinogens.
These are just at low doses, however. At higher doses, the visual structure that envelops your consciousness gives way to a fully three dimensional reality. Surely you have had glimpses of this realm on high doses of acid and mushrooms, but DMT leaves your body behind and puts it there.
This 3d structure often begins as a simple room, sometimes overlayed on the room you are actually in. From there, almost anything can happen.

Thanks a ton! Great information! I'm sure this will help others in trying to piece together some idea of this experience too.

screw that "almost" anything. dont be surprised if this room that you find yourself in that may somewhat resemble the one you just left (i mean pretty much only the same size) to be completely full of "people" waiting for you.

Trip report in my sig mate, should give you a general idea.
As far as the sparknotes version, DMT visuals completely take over your vision, you won't know if your eyes are open or closed. You will be viewing a completely alien world, not attached to the physical realm you are in.

The visuals at non-breakthrough doses of DMT are reminiscent of those you'd get on mushrooms, but with more of the complexity and structure of LSD. Overall I'd say they're closer to mushrooms, but really quite a bit crazier than either of them.
The same goes for higher, "breakthrough" doses. DMT's visuals are simply far more complex, and are totally crammed with constantly-transforming activity. I find myself in alien environments, but find them difficult to explore because the architecture sort of "burps," and in the process completely changes its dimensions and structure, about twice a second.

Have you tried ayahuasca? If so, is it that crazy visually at any dose? I've heard it described as anything from "mild visuals with lots of puking" to "the most psychedelic substance in history" (McKenna).

I'd like to try ayahuasca someday, but I'd like to do it with experienced veterans.
From what I understand the MAOI component slows the trip down, and you can actually keep up with it and observe the unfolding visuals, rather than having your face shattered within seconds (like when you smoke it). It sounds nice.

I haven't really had a breakthrough dose of DMT but close to it. The visuals I get are kinda like everything has a deeper texture describing it. Like objects and people are giving off vibes and you can actually see them while on DMT. Immense waves coming off everything that completely describe what your looking at in a waveular pattern. Does that make any sense?

Sort of. I notice at pre-breakthrough doses that everything you look at just jumps out at you. The colors and movement are spectacular, as well. I've had trips that were like being dropped off in the mushroom kingdom (Super Mario style).

Edit: oops, DXM on the brain..
It's interesting that you say super mario, Tchan. I know that people say salvia is nothing like DMT, but I took a huge huge bongrip of some 20x and ended up in a shimmering mario-type world being babysat by gumbas. everything was shimmering as if it was made of jewels and it had a "blocky" look to it like mario world. The music that I was playing at the time made me feel as if I was being rocked back and forth by the gumbas and they kept threatening me with things like "If you tell your parents about this, we're never letting you leave."
It was one of the most unique experiences I've ever had on any drug, but due to the physical dysphoria/sweating/depression that followed I never tried the foul stuff again.
Is there dysphoria associated with smoking DMT? or any physical drawbacks aside from throat/lung soreness?

I've seen people get so high so fast it was very disorienting to them and made them puke. They had a great time after they puked though.
