I was reading the rules of goem and they mention "snatch"(es).
What are these in realtion to a torrent? I fail at google and the stupid site uses all these non-intuitive words without providing a definition/faq entry.
Thanks for the insight!

Snatching is when you download a torrent without seeding an equal or greater amount than what you downloaded. Meaning, if you download a 500 megabyte video file without seeding (uploading) at least 500 megabytes or more, you're making it harder for others to download it. That's why you see a lot of torrent comments that say "sum1 plz seed!!1!"

ok, so snatching is completing the torrent without seeding it back, and leaching refers to downloading w/ out seeding appropriatly, including both unfinished and completed files?
That makes sense, I just wish those aholes would have clarified what that means. As evidenced by the folks in this thread, people don't know what these dumb slang words mean.
Thanks man

When you're downloading a torrent, you're seeding and leeching it at the same time. If the number of seeders is higher than the number of leechers, that means there are people who've already finished the file seeding it without leeching anymore.
When you start downloading a file, you count as 1 leecher and 1 seeder on the tracker until it's finished downloading.

No, you can only be one or the other. You are either leeching or seeding not both. It is true that you are actually seeding while you are leeching but in the stats its one or the other, not both.

Just be careful where you seed, or the snatch will haunt you for the rest of your life.

Ah, thanks for the correction. What determines whether you're counted as a seeder or leecher? Whichever one goes faster (uploading/downloading)?

No, when you are downloading, you are a leecher. When you are finished downloading, then, and only then, can you be a seeder.

snatch is just a fancy word for saying "downloaded", when you download something, you snatch it.

That's not true at all. At least not on what.cd. They are currently celebrating 3,000,000 million snatches, I don't know why they would celebrate that if it were negative.

Hi
Snatch is not negative per se. It depends on what you do after "snatching" or completing your download. If you delete the torrent from your client and never seed back you are a runner. But the fact that 3.000.000 files were downloaded is surely good for it means that the site has interesting and most wanted files.
