Psilocybe caerulipes In NJ!!!!!!!!!!!!

Found this single Psilocybe caerulipes in northern NJ today. Im trying to get a print as we speak but the cap was somewhat dry so it isnt likely. Stem is blue as hell at this point. I cant believe I found this!!!! I feel like Ive won the lottery!
Will take more pics of picked specimen after Ive given up on the spore print. Im also going to try to make an LC out of the inner stem.

Any sign of an annulus?
Does your camera have macro mode?
Are you going to send it to Workman?

Send some gill fragments to Workman, it seems noones actually found real Psilocybe caerulipes yet.

Upon closer inspection i found something that is indeed suggestive of an annulus. The following pics are as close to macro mode I could get... [size] [cap] [annulus] [gills]
What condition does the specimen have to be in for workman? its pretty dried out at this point. Because it seems like that is in fact the remnants of an annulus Im guessing its not caerulipes but rather ovoideocystidiata...which is still awesome because it seems to be the first time its been found in NJ.

Looks like a good match for P. ovoideocystidiata, but it would be interesting to send it in to see if it matches microscopically. Since this is from outside its known range there is an increased chance it would be something else.
For now I have added P. ovoideocystidiata to the New Jersey section of which mushrooms grow in my area?

Nice one.. i think we'll see ovoideocystidiata continue to expand its range as time goes by. its a young species, so it still has alot of states try its luck at.

Wow, thanks guys. I really appreciate the extra eyes watching for potentially new species and the confidence in my microscopy.
It does appear to be Psilocybe ovoideocystidiata. I only need a few whole dried gills to confirm. PM for details if interested. Every collection is important.

Beautiful my friend. I am very envious. I am dying to find some ovoids this season. I just gotta get to looking, I can't seem to find anywhere that has these bad boys.
Does anyone have an idea to when these are out of season?

Do they have a very distinct smell compared to other mushrooms?
I really want to hunt these mushrooms, never seen them before. I'm used to picking weilii in lawns. Those look fairly similar, but smaller.

No distinct odor as far as I could tell. It was found around Union County. Cant wait to see if more pop up after the rain we're supposed to get!

Umm....Quick question....If you live in WA state, can you please use some of those fragments and introduce this species to the PNW?
We would love you for that.

Boomers, Are you saying that the season ends early June, or is that when it is strongest? Also, ever have any luck finding them in fall?

The season starts slowing down dramatically in early June. You can still find them but they are far and few between. It might be a little later for you though up in Jersey. And yes you can find them in fall but in VERY limited numbers. I found some at one of my patches last year at Thanksgiving. I have a thread somewhere on it. The peak of the season here in Oh, WV and PA has always seemed to me to be about the second or third week of May depending on Rain.

Thanks for the info. Went back for a closer look today and found a few more. One dried cluster of about 5, and one small one with a fresh cap. Im very happy to have found one that should produce a print. Ill post pictures later.
