Hello fellow compadres. I have been away for a while but have recently been advising a buddy of mine. This will be moved to Grow Logs once finished because that's pretty much what this post will be about.
Experience: 4 Full Grows start to finish Method: Double Tub Tek (Modified slightly with a 10cm diameter computer fan for air exchange once a day for 20 min. and Perlite). Strain: PESA Substrate: Alien's substrate Casing Layer: 60:40 Coco-Coir:Vermiculite CASING A: 2 X 1 Pint Jars with .75 inches of casing mix. CASING B: 2 X 1 Pint Jars with .50 inches of casing mix. Light: 15 watt fluorescent with cheap workshop ballast.
THE SET UP
Ok, so this is his first time with the double tub tek. He has experience using a PMP with Geolite. He also has experience with using a PMP with a Ultrasonic humidifier/1L coke bottle methods. So this is a new experience for him. The 6 jars he had colonizing took about a month to completely colonize, but he saw very strong Rhizomorphic growth and didn't lose any to contams. He gave two jars to a friend of ours to play with because he was interested in learning.
This is Day 5 of Fruiting and he thinks he has got a pretty nice pin set on Casing A.
And This is Day 5 of Fruiting for Casing B.
All comments/suggestions are welcome.

Ok it has been 24 hours since the last pics were up. Here are some updated ones. This is Day 6 of fruiting phase.
This is Casing A Progress:
He will update tomorrow. He's growing PESA strain, which he has grown before. As I understand it can sometimes be difficult to get a robust pin set with PESA.
I guess what my buddy wants to know...is whether or not this pin set looks like it's doing ok. I told him it looked fine to me but any input would be helpful. (Increase misting/decrease misting ect.)

it looks like some of the caps are opening. Try bending or cutting the sides of the tray. This will help let out all of the CO2 thats getting trapped and should help with your grow

Ok guys, Day 3 of fruiting, and my friend is getting some wierd results. There are definately mushies. And some will turn out nice. But there are also more mutants than he's ever encountered with PESA. I am not complaining. I am very interested. I noticed, you cant see in the pics, but the mutantoid phenotypes are as follows:
1. Some of the dudes are growing separate heads, on top of their caps.
2. Some caps are fused like siamese twins.. 3. One looks like a cactus graft, with a perfectly normal mushy growing nicely and a pin growing out of the cap...that one was intersting.
Anyways, I will keep you all updated and show specific mutant forms when I hear about a harvest. Thanks for all your inputs. I think he's fixed his air exchange problem. There are now two computer fans. One on the top tub and another on the bottom tub. They are on timers for two thirty minute air exchanges per day.

It sounds like my buddy is getting ready for harvest. He sent me these pics. For the second casing, there are fewer but what looks like denser fruits. I think he's fixed his air exchange problem so the next flushes should be better. But for now, he's pleased...and I am proud. Will update soon with harvest pics/ trip report.
Casing A 24 hours before harvest:
CASING B 36-48 hrs. before harvest:

Well here is the first flush from CASING A. I have to say, I was a little suprised with the low yield. Thanks to all for staying tuned. I will update tomorrow with first flush from CASING B. I have noticed in some of these pictures, that there are some VERY interesting mutants. I saw one SIAMESE TWIN, I saw several with tumor like growths coming from the caps, I saw a few with inverted mushrooms growing from the caps of others. I saw many many magical things....
All comments welcomed!

Doesn't look to bad.. But i know what ya mean, they are kinda thinly spaced.. You should try B+ strain.. I love them! Always get about a 1/2oz on a flush from a caseing that big.. Well maybe a little bit bigger.

Ok everyone, here is the update. This is the second flush and still going strong.
As stated before, there were many mutants in this batch, but according to a trip report by someone who partook in the first flush, the mutants did not dissapoint. In fact here is the trip report...
Dosage: 3.0 grams of dried aborts in with a green tea bag.
Location: A Raggae show
Nice visuals were reported. Unforunately, my buddy had to attempt to "Control" his adventure numerous times throughout the night. He went to a live music show where many of his friends were and did not want anyone to know he was tripping. He had to go outside several times to get his composure, but found that staying outside was rather peaceful and with the ocean front breeze and all, tactile hallucinations were poignant. Afterward, he said he had taken shrooms many times in his lifetime, and these were by far the best and most potent with visuals such as the raggae music taking over lights and controlling the minds of others! THANKS ALIEN'S SUBSTRATE!
NEXT will feature B+ Strain and Creepers on Alien's substrate cased to 60/40 coir. Be on the lookout!

Yea all and all I was pretty pleased actually. I have seen lots of PESA casings and they just tend to grow up in groups like that. Less even flushes but all in all they turn out nice.

Wow I have to say this look's like an impressive little batch. I have one question though, I have been considering using a PC fan myself for automatic ventilation but does there need to be some kind of filter to keep dust/contam's from being swept in with my nice fresh air?

yea, what you can actually do is buy some HEPA filter material from the Home Depot Air conditioning supply section over by plumbing. Then It's easiest to just cut a square of it with scissors to be slightly larger than the fan radius. Then just screw the fan into your double tub or monotub or whatever set up you have with the filter between the interface of the growbox and the fan itself. You aren't actually screwing the filter to the box, it's just held there by the tight screwing of the fan itself. Also I would advise against keeping your fan on all day. (It will dry out your casing!). The fan should be kept on a timer. I like three free air exchanges per day each consisting of no more than 30 minutes. They can be spaced out however but I like 8AM, 3PM, 8PM. Hope this diagram helps.

Well well a picture IS worth a thousand words. I've been trying to come up with a totally self maintained terrarium the filter and fan is an integral part of my setup but I've been wondering what to do as a screen that would prevent contam's but not block all my airflow but it sure looks like you've given me a direction. Thank you! Big prop's...
I won't be starting construction of my new fruiting chamber until these damn PF cakes colonize, but when I do I'll be sure to update ya'll on my results. (Although I think I need to fix my incubator my aquarium thermometer is giving me false readings, and my PF jar's have been a hint cold as far as the glass goes anyway.)
