Friday eve 5/2 hunt
    #8364198 - 05/05/08 07:51 AM (15 years, 10 months ago)

Conditions were very DRY the field I went to was raped. Why do some people kick over cow paties?
Cubes were there, but they were a much whiter color than usual; they were not their usual pancake golden brown color.
Here's a few pics.

Happy shroomin ya'll.

People flip over cow patties in belief that shrooms are growing under them as well as on top. I'm not sure of the truth in this, for I always try not to damage the mycelium... Anyone know if there is any truth to flipping cow patties over to find more mushrooms?

More than once, i have found mycelium underneath when i tipped the pie up a bit to check, but never found a mushroom under there. I always disturb the pie as little as possible, and make a mental note of those which have mycelium. Kicking them over is just destructive. :frown:

most people flip them over because they dont know what the fuck theyre doing. usually during my first hunts of the season i will check the underside for mycellium growth, but i have found a shitload of tiny pins growing on the bottom but its much better just to wait a week and let them grow out of the side and then up towards the sun

I could see some douche picking and flipping in hopes that nobody else will find anything and he will be able to sell to locals.
