I got so much shit today, it's unbelievable.
Manure compost. Top soil. Potting soil. A toughneck container. RTV. Polyfill. Tyvek. Coffee filters. Spent coffee. Honey. Sphagnum moss. An analog hygrometer/thermometer thing.
I also priced blood meal (expensive locally, not so much in a chain), bone meal and coir, but the only coir I saw was the woven stuff, and I thought someone said to use powder? O_o
I saw gypsum, which was itty bitty rocks, but definitely NOT a powder, and lime, but it wasn't hydrated. I'm not sure if by "hydrated lime" they mean "put some lime in water" but Christ on a crutch, it comes in 50 pound bags. Yeesh.
Took the BRF cakes out today. Took some pictures, but when I broke them up that pink shit definitely wasn't on the inside, just the outside. They didn't look all that healthy to me, though, and they felt spongy. Ah well.
Nothing's happened with the bag, either. And I'm still waiting on my PC.

Don't use lime. It's too hard to get the PH right with that. You have to have JUST the right ratio, or you'll go past your desired target.
Use Calcium carbonate... it's a pH buffer, which will help to stabilize your substrate at approximately 7-7.5, which is the middle of the road, which is perfect for mushrooms.
Easy to find sources of calcium carbonate include: Crushed chicken egg shells, Crushed oyster shells (found in bird section of pet store), or even crushed Tums...
I'm sure there are other sources, but these are easy to come by. Especially if you eat a lot of eggs.

Er, wouldn't the flavouring in Tums cause contams or some nastyshit?
