What is evil?

Many of you will say there is no evil, just different people with different backgrounds, morals, and opinions. But for those who think evil exists, share with what form you believe it takes in this world.

Would genocide be considered evil if the intention was solely to eliminate, without relishing in the consequential misery?

I'm not promoting genocide or anything, just asking if it applies to 'causing misery for the sake of misery'

Maybe. I only listed one member of the set of evil, a member that is an element of evil. However, surely there exists some set of which some elements are evil and some are not. (The OP asked "What is evil?" not, "What is all that is evil?" or "What is not evil?")

evil is an action that will tip the balance of what a society considers moral. evil is far beyond offsetting the balance of equilibrium by being a little naughty. the thing about it is what is considered evil will always change overall as society changes and everyone will give you a different answer because of varying beliefs. someone said murder is def evil. was it evil before societies were formed? do other animals not kill each other for survival?
but i think if you really boil it down, no specific deed can be defined as evil because of constant change...which is why i dont believe in evil.
i know your were asking for believers, but at least i gave a thoughtful answer

I had that trip on mushrooms, couldn't imagine a 12 hour LSD trip of it. Nothing like seeing the prison walls for the first time, gives you something to think about, sometimes obsessively, for quite a while.
Evil to me is what you see when you have no hope. At its core, hope gives you strength to see beauty even when there is none.

evil to me is darkness, because dark has no emotion, evil as a being, would be an intellegent powerful being, with no emotion, evil as a source is darkness, our counter
