Chocolate in Mazatec mushroom ritual

When chocolate first hit the market in Europe, people were thinking of banning it because of the mind altering alkaloids it contains.
Reading the Time magazine article about the Mazatec indians, I see that chocolate was always eaten at the beginning of the mushroom ritual.
Of course, in the rain forrest, chocolate if fucking chocolate. I wonder how much the alkaloids in the chocolate effects the psilocybin. When I made shroom cocoa, I didn't noticed a difference, but I didn't know then that I was supposed to be looking.
Has anybody had chocolate flavor their trip?

Chocolate strong chocolate would bring up your mood cosiderably, probably just making the trip more enjoyable.

I was thinking that maybe the good rainforest chocolate could flavor the trip from psilocybin similar to the way that the "extra" alkaloids in a cactus changes the mescaline trip.
If the alkaloids in chocolate keep your trip positive, that would be great. Chocolate sure doestn' seem to be a negative!

I think I could do a whole bar of high-cocoa dark chocolate with my cup of shroom-cocoa.

Hell, milk coats the stomach. The indians in the rainforest ate chocolate because it was a stimulant. It's actually pretty bitter until you sugar it up.

Likely they made a cold cocoa drink and would give to you, before they kill you.

We actualy make chocolate with my shrooms. We grind up 14 grams to one pound of chocolate.
I cant say for sure but I feel that the chocolate does something to intesify the effects. Cause I can eat the same amount in the raw as chocolate and seems to make it stronger
Then again it may just be in my head, but thats my two cents

Interesting. Maybe a shot of creme de cacao in the shroom-hot chocolate?
From the Time article: "They gave us chocolate to drink, somewhat ceremonially, and suddenly I recalled the words of the early Spanish writer who had said that before the mushrooms were served, chocolate was drunk."
So, it was a drink rather than a solid. Although, that wouldn't matter aside from tradition.
Actually, it probably wasn't alcoholic either. The article reads, "The mushrooms lay there in their box, regarded by everyone respectfully but without solemnity. The mushrooms are sacred and never the butt of the vulgar jocularity that is often the way of white men with alcohol."
If there was alcohol in the chocolate, he probably would have noted that fact.

Do you think it would make that much of a difference?

Make a difference if it's liquid or solid? No.
Will chocolate make a difference to the trip?I don't know. I haven't given it a good shot yet. My shroom-hot chocolate tastes good, and it doesn't give BAD trips, but that's about all I can say about it.

Yeah I was just wondering your opinion on the solid/liquid part.
I think the chocolate does have an effect on it.

The best way to get a good dose of chocolate alkaloids is to heat a cup of whole milk or cream, stir in cocoa powder until it's saturated, then mix with 4 oz melted bakers chocolate. Add just enough sugar to make the beverage drinkable.
I don't know if it'd affect the mushrooms, but drinking a chocolate brew like that while coming up would be a good way to find out.

Or just melt up a chocolate fondue and get some fruit ready.
Damn... now it's now turned into me buying pounds of fondue chocolate and a new fondue pot to go with it. I really don't need it, but oh well!

By the way, the chocolate they were drinking was actually a beverage called 'xocolātl' (meaning bitter water I believe). It is nothing like modern chocolate, it is much more like a coffee preparation, but of cocoa beans instead of coffee beans.

That's why I recommend my heavy-duty chocolate brew over just eating regular old chocolate or chocolate fondue. It's not xocolātl, but it's probably comparable in terms of cacao alkaloids.
