Fahkface' very own Strain Library - With Pics... [UPDATED 16.04.2008]
    #8106067 - 03/05/08 12:56 PM

This is going to be my personal Strain library.

The following strains are the ones I already cultivated and luckily I took pics of most of them.

Anyway, the descriptions are from my experience ONLY and
shouldn't be taken as THE word, because depending on every strains distinct genetics, they could very extremely in appearance and performance!
When I actually know that MY grow was an exception in appearance I'll say it.

The order these strains are listed is the one I cultivated them.

I won't include any cultivation difficulty things, because in my opinion all cubes are the same to grow i.e. none is more difficult to grow than another and additional it would be my own luck I had with the strain, and therefore shouldn't be said to be a "difficulty".

I also won't post any origin if I'm not sure if it's correct, so no long essays about where the strain comes from and what story behind it is will be found, simply to lack of knowledge from my side!

The pictures I post are meant to show the fruits in all their verities, I've cultivated them.

********************************************************
Concerning the potency, please don't take this too seriously.
In my opinion a cube is a cube and potency is very subjective issue. It can very greatly within the same strain and even within the same flush!!!
********************************************************

Lizard King

Origin: USA - Georgia
Potency: Potent
Colonization: Fast
Average size:Medium
Appearance: Mostly slender fruits with a hollow, even
stem and rather small caps.
Cap colour is moderate brown when young and
pale with a tendency to yellow when older.
Very thin veil, that mostly vanishes when
getting older.

Extra: Repeated flusher!

Ban Phang Ka

Origin: Ban Phang Ka, Thailand
Potency: Potent
Colonization: moderate to fast
Average size: Medium (told to be large)
Appearance: The stems are mostly dense and rather long; they look a little wood like all the time (especially when young).
The caps are quiet big and faint from light brown colour when young, to pale colour when older, with a brown center.
The veil is thick and breaks away mostly cleanly, staying strong to full maturity (see last picture)

Extra: - The appearance of my Ban Phang Ka's was quiet different from what other people's seem to be!
Prolific fruiter!!!

Golden Teacher

Origin: Unknown
Potency: Moderate to potent
Colonization: Moderate
Average size: Medium to large
Appearance: The Golden Teacher has a moderate, mostly even and medium hollow stem, that starts off a little wood looking like, but evens out with getting older.
It's caps are fairly large compared to the stem size and are coloured in a unique way. When young caps are auburn with plenty of small white dots on them. When getting older the deep red-brown turns into a distinct golden colour, getting darker towards the middle, that gave this strain it's name.
It develops a quiet thick veil, that mostly breaks away cleanly and "hangs" down, when approaching full maturity.

Extra: -

B+

Origin: Unknown
Potency: moderate
Colonization: slow to moderate
Average size: large
Appearance: The stem is medium hollow, long, even and rather thin, compared to the big caps.
The caps are coloured light brown and start to turn pale as soon as they open. Getting older the cap turns into a pale colour fainting to a yellow tone in it's center, often nippled.
The veil is rather thin but breaks away cleanly. It tends to stick to the stem, while getting more mature.

Extra: Tends to lack of potency!

Brazil

Origin: Brazil
Potency: Moderate to potent
Colonization: Fast (fastest strain I've worked with)
Average Size: Medium to large
Appearance: The stem is rather meaty and looks a little wood like, when young, but evens out the older the fruit gets. It's medium dense.
The cap starts off with brown red color but turns into a pale/yellow tone, when getting older.
The veil mostly breaks away cleanly and tends to stick to the stem, when reaching full maturity.

Extra: Very good spore depositor!

South American

Origin: Venezuela
Potency: Moderate
Colonization: Fast
Average Size: Large
Appearance: The stem is woody looking when young and often stays that way, when getting older. It's medium dense.
The cap is also a little woody looking, often nippled or
bottle formed. It stays mostly deep to light brown when reaching full maturity.
The veil breaks away cleanly and is fleshy, which allows it, to "stand" even when mature.

Extra: I've had very different potency results with this strain. Some fruits were very nice, though laid-back, others were completely inactive.

Burma

Origin: Burma
Potency: Moderate to potent
Colonization: Moderate
Average Size: Medium to large
Appearance: ***This Burma grow appeared to look a lot different from what I've seen and expected. It's not to be taken as the regular way!

Extra: I let them colonize too long. In addition they suffered from summer heat!

PESA

Origin: - (probably South America)
Potency: Moderate to potent
Colonization: Average
Average Size: Medium
Appearance: The stem starts off wood like, but turns pale when maturing. It's medium dense.
The cap is deep brown, turning sand coloured when matured. It's texture is a little rougher than most of the other cubes I cultivated. It tends to be nippled, though the fruits of my personal grow weren't.
The veil appeared to be rather thin, not cutting away cleanly (though most of the fruits I've seen did).

Extra: -

Huautla

Origin: Oaxaca, Mexico
Potency: Moderate
Colonization: Average
Average Size: Small to medium
Appearance: The stem starts off and stays pale, tending become very long and thin. It's hollow.
The caps are coloured light brown to yellow and are bottle shaped.
The veil breaks away cleanly most of the time, though it's not very thick.

Extra: Prolific fruiter!

SORRY, BUT NO PICS AVAILABLE... I SIMPLY CAN'T FIND THEM!

Penis Envy:

Origin: Colombia
Potency: Potent
Colonization: Fast
Average Size: Moderate to large
Appearance: Possibly the most extraordinary cube strain, due to his phallic appearance. Once you've seen it, you know where it got it's name.
The stem is thick and very dense and pale white from the beginning on.
The cap doesn't flat out very much, often looking like it's brown coloured part of the stem.
The veil is almost invisible.

Extra: Since the cap doesn't flat out very much, the spores aren't released in big numbers. It's very hard to print them! Therefore prints are very rare and demanded.
Not the best choice when it comes to cakes, because the fruits are so dense that they need a lot of water to mature correctly.

Texas Goliad

Origin: Goliad County, Texas
Potency: Moderate to potent
Colonization: Average
Average Size: Medium to large
Appearance: The stem Starts of a little woody looking, turning into a light brown / yellowish colour when maturing. It's medium to dense.
The caps are are covered small with white dots and are also nippled most of the time.
The veil is quiet thick and separates cleanly from the cap, staying "stable" during maturity.

Extra: The bruising of these mushroom mostly turned out greenish.

Cambodian

Origin: Temple of Angkor Wat, Cambodia
Potency: Potent
Colonization: Fast
Average Size: Medium to large
Appearance: The stems are white from the beginning on. They are medium dense.
The caps are very light coloured, getting more and more pale, the older they get. In the end they are almost white with a yellowish center.
The veil cuts away cleanly most of the time and is medium thick.

Extra: One of the fastest colonizers turned out very colourful and visual for me. Prolific fruiter!

Amazon

Origin: South America
Potency: Moderate to potent
Colonization: Fast
Average Size: Large
Appearance: The stem even and slightly brown, not changing in colour when maturing and well proportionate to the cap.
The caps are yellowish, turning more pale when getting older. They are bottled to nippled, flatting out rather fast.
The veil is very thick and cuts away cleanly from the cap. It stays "stable" until full maturity.

Extra: For me, Amazon develops the most picture matching cubes of all the strains I've cultivated. I love it!!!

F+

Origin: Florida
Potency: Potent
Colonization: Slow to moderate
Average Size: My personal grow appeared to be rather small, though I've seen and heard of pretty big fruits coming from this strain.
Appearance: The stem is mostly white, developing fine hairs up to half of it's length. It's very thin and long, compared to the rather small caps.
The caps are light brown and turn more pale / yellowish, when getting older.
The veil mostly cuts away cleanly. It's medium thick.

Extra: One of the most visual (moving) and powerful cube strains I've tested.

Aussie

Origin: Australia
Potency: Moderate to potent
Colonization: Moderate
Average Size: ***The fruits of my Aussie grow turned out quiet small and think, so it's not representative!***
Appearance: Pale stems that are quiet dense.
The caps have a golden yellow colour that stays like this all the way through maturity.
The veil was very thin in the beginning and almost invisible later.

Extra: Sadly, this grow turned out very lame. I'm planning on a new one and will update this post, after I -hopefully- succeeded!

Koh Samui

Origin: isle of Koh Samui, Thailand
Potency: Potent
Colonization: Fast
Average Size: Medium
Appearance: The stem is completely white and even. It's medium dense.
The Caps are bottle shaped and flatten out completely during maturity. The cap colour is an intense orange that stays 'till the end.
The veil breaks away cleanly most of the time and is medium thick. Once it's broking it hangs down.

Extra: Very prolific fruiter! Nicely shaped fruits and definitely one of the most potent strains I've tested yet. As all the other SEA strains, they seem to provide a very colourful trip. It showed the strongest bluing of the cube strains, I've "worked" with.

Arcadian Coast

Origin: Gulf of Mexico, US
Potency: Moderate to potent
Colonization: Fast
Average Size: Medium
Appearance: The Stem looks a little stone like, when young, not changing much, when getting older.
The caps are also stone coloured and -as the PESA caps- a little rougher in their texture.
The veil doesn't really cut away but just disappears completely.

Extra: Very beautiful and unique looking fruits. I like it

Elephant Dung

Origin: Thailand
Potency: Potent
Colonization: Fast
Average Size: Large
Appearance: The stem is quiet dark for cube, almost looking a little bronze like. It's very meaty and tends to become very long.
The caps start off with an almost orange colour, that later changes to a more pale colour. They are often bottled or nippled, later flatting out completely.
The veil is very strong and cuts aways cleanly most of the time, staying "stable".

Extra: One of my favorite strains, that I think is very beautiful and gave a nice and colourful trip!

PESH

Origin: -
Potency: Not yet tested
Colonization: Fast
Average Size: Moderate to large
Appearance: The stem is coloured with very light brown, making it look a little dirty. It's mostly even and medium hollow, getting more thick and robust in later flushes.
The caps are coloured with a rusty/orange tone, that changes to a more pale colour when maturing, maintaining the orange colour in the center. The caps are in perfect proportion to the stem.
The veil is fleshy and breaks away cleanly.

Extra: A very nice strain, that looks very cube like and fruits prolifically. Heavy depositor and strong bluing.

Cuba

Origin: Cuba
Potency: Moderate to potent
Colonization: Moderate
Average Size: Moderate to large
Appearance: The stems are all white from the beginning on. They are very rubber like and resistant. They are medium dense.
The caps start off with a solid brown colour, changing to pure white with a yellowish/brown center when maturing. They flat out almost completely.
The veil is very thin and cuts away cleanly about half the time.

Extra: In my opinion a very beautiful and smooth looking mushroom, that amazed me with it's stem texture.
Unfortunately the casing suffered a little from overlay, so the results weren't that great.

Orissa India

Origin: Orissa Province, India
Potency: Potent
Colonization: Moderate to fast
Average Size: Large
Appearance: The stem is mostly pale and gets very long when maturing. It's mostly medium dense, except for the solid bottom of the stem.
The caps start off brown, turning to a dirty gray/brown when maturing. They are very big and solid compared to the rather long and thin stem.
They veil is medium thick and cuts away cleanly most of the time.

Extra: Although the pins appeared to be very thin, the fruits developed to be pretty large in the end.
As expected these became some of the biggest fruits I've cultivated yet. Very nice spore depositor!

Koh Samui Super Strain

Origin: Island of Koh Samui, Thailand
Potency: Potent
Colonization: Fast
Average Size: Small
Appearance: The stem is very fleshy and dense. It starts off white and stays this way with age. The pins of this strain often look like small balls, covered with a small brown cap. The stem stays short and thick, mostly curved and uneven.
The caps are spotted when young, become deep brown / orange when getting older. The spots mostly disappear.
The caps rather small and don't flat out very much.
The veil is very thin and reps away in very early stage, often staying attached to the cap.

Extra: A very unique looking strain, that embody the efforts of isolating the tendency of the regular Koh Samui strain to develop short and stubby looking mushrooms.
The bluing is amazing, just as it is, with the regular Koh Samuis.

Mexican Dutch King

Origin: Mexico
Potency: Not yet tested
Colonization: Moderate to fast
Average Size: Moderate to large
Appearance: The stems start off mostly regular, in a light brown /yellow tone, which changes to a pale even stem with time. It's comparatively long. It's mostly hollow.
The caps have few, milky spots on their surface, which disappear when maturing, leaving it in a nice golden / brown tone.
The veil is thin and doesn't cut away cleanly most of the time.

Extra: Probably one of the most average cubes I've grown. Nothing spectacular about it, though still a good add to every collection. Surprisingly deep bluing upon cutting!

Tak Mountain Cube

Origin: Thailand (probably Koh Samui)
Potency: Not yet tested
Colonization: Fast
Average size: Moderate
Appearance: The stem is even and pale from the beginning on. When maturing it turns out to be almost white, even, medium dense and very stable.
The caps are deeply brown in the beginning, turning to white on it's edges and orange / brown in the centre.
It doesn't flat out completely but maintains a cone shape.
The veil doesn't cut away cleanly and often sticks to the gills, which makes it necessary to remove it, before printing.

Extra: Grows from deep withing the substrate, what makes it hard to remove it, without ripping out big chunks of the layer. prolific fruiter!

Penis Envy # 6

Origin: Lab (was created by RogerRabbit. It's a cross bred between Penis Envy and Texas)
Potency: Not yet tested
Colonization: Moderate
Average Size: Large
Appearance: The stem starts off very thick and wood like.
It turns very long and often massive, with a twisted surface, keeping a bronze like colour. It's mostly dense.
The caps appear to start deeply brown with plenty of white spots an them, that stay all the way to maturity.
It flats out completely, often turning concave with age.
The colour is a nice golden with a darker center.
The thick veil stays attached to the gills completely most of the time, and needs to be removed before.
printing.

Extra: As RR stated himself, the appearance is depending on what genetics (either PE or Texas dominate).
In my case, the stem colour, the large shape and the greenish bruising point a lot to the Texan side.
It's the biggest strain I've grown yet!
It's printing abilities are a lot better than the ones of the original PE, though still not ideal!

Quezon Philippines

Origin: Quezon - Philippines
Potency: Not yet tested
Colonization: Moderate
Average Size: Small
Appearance: The stem is pale from the beginning on and doesn't change it's colour on it's way to maturity.
It's extremely even and straight. It's very strong and medium dense (rubber like).
The caps are coloured in a light brown and change to a pale sand colour, when matured. They are often nippled and very fleshy.
They thin veil cuts away cleanly most of the time.

Extra: Sadly the print I used was very old (probably the reason for the rather slow colonization). The results of this try were pretty lame, which is why I have to re-try them in the future.

More strains and pics to follow...

I wish I had more time and space to do all the other strains I have... This less than a third of all the strains and species I have... I'm just lacking time (god dammit :mad2:)

Lizard King and Ban Phang Ka are two very nice strains.
Tomorrow I'll crumble some BPK jars and case them with coir.

Currently I have a Koh Samui Super Strain casing pinning and Penis Envy, Penis Envy 6, Philippines and Tak Mountain Cube colonizing some casings and, as well as some almost fully colonized U.S Virgin Islands and Azures (and some more PE's).

I'm excited what's gonna come

Great work here, but I must disagree on the potency of the B+ strain. It's my favorite strain for a few reasons: very hearty and contam resistant, giant fruits, and excellent potency. My friends all thought they were the best potency as well, but those were compost grown also. My only complaint is that it doesn't fruit nearly as prolifically as other strains. But the size makes up for that to some degree.

As I quoted in the "disclaimer", it's all a matter of subjective perception. My personal experience with this strain weren't the best, con potency issues.
I also said, that the potency varies greatly within the same strain, making it possible for one flush to be kick ass, while next is useless.
The substrate you used, doesn't have an influence on the potency in my opinion but since it's not prove weather if it does, or doesn't, it's nothing but an opinion, based on personal experience.

Awh, man!
Very nice!
I can only hope to get to this point one day.
I've got two syringes and I'm waiting to get some jard.
B+ and Malabar.
I can't wait to get started.
Good luck in your future grows and I can't wait to see more!
