Shroom kit!
    #8041958 - 02/19/08 09:00 AM (16 years, 1 month ago)

I'm going to pay $120 for the EZ Gro Kit from Homesteadbooks.com. I've read previous posts about shroom kits and everyone seems to say "ohh don't pay for a shroom kit, you can grow them yourself and the materials are cheap!!". Well, for me, it'll be alot easier to just use a grow kit. Where I live at there are no shrooms whatsoever, so basically I'm not looking for unlimited shrooms or anything, I just want enough to trip 1 or 2 times and I think the EZ Gro Kit is my best choice. I don't feel like doing a whole big setup and pressure cooking and all of that shit, I think that's better for people who want alot of shrooms, I just want enough to have a mild trip.

Can anyone here give me any advice on growing using the shroom kit? I remember reading some other post about it and some guy said the instructions didn't say he needed to the let mushrooms get air 2 times a day or something. It says all I need to do is:

1. Mix the Grain and the Psilocybe Cubensis Spores together without ever opening the bag
2. After the grain is colonized, mix it with the compost.

Is there anything else that I should do? Any advice you guys can give? And please don't suggest that I not buy it, growing myself is absolutely out of the question.

i think everyone here has done research so they can understand how a mushroom grows and what it needs. what makes you think you are going to have any success without researching?

What are the exact materials I'd need if I grew my mushrooms manually?

Although i may advise others in a general way regarding all types of mushroom grows, and may even post question from other forums about growing "active" mushrooms, i only grow non-"active" mushrooms and edibles.

First of all: 120$ for a shroom kit is simply too expensive.
Not only because you can grow your own mushrooms but because there are several sources that sell them for about 40 buck or even less.

Second of all, growing mushrooms on your own, doesn't necessarily mean that you want to grow ass loads of mushrooms.
You don't actually need anything but the cake ingredients, a stinkin' normal pod (that everyone should have), a few jars, a little five buck plastic green house from a garden store a bag of clay stones or perlite, some water, tin foil, spores and a syringe. That's it.
Sound's more than it actually is, because half of the things are pretty normal to have at home anyway.
You don't need any Terrarium style FC's, heater, air pumps or whatnot to grow mushrooms successfully!
If you just want a few trips, not more, stick to the cheap stuff and be happy about the fact that you'll have spared at least a 100 bucks!

you could always use a mycobag. You can get them pretty cheap from one of the sponsors(like $10-15) and all you need to do is inoculate with a syringe and leave them alone for a couple of weeks at room temp and you'll have a decent amount of mushies

you need the basics, I'm trying my self how to grow and eat Psilocybe Mushrooms. If you study, you will learn on how you Inoculate and sterilize Jars to grow Mycelium. The mycelium is the Fungus in which the Mushroom bodies will grow on. once the Mycelium is fully colonized the subrate you done need to worry on Sterilization anymore, after that just put the Fully colonized mycelium in a Tank growing system that you made. The tank need 2 inch of Perlite thats been soaked and drained, then 1 inch of dry perlite on top. the perlite sits at the bottom of the tank. this perlite give the mycelium Humidity and expose it to light for 12 hours a day. the Light will make Mushrooms Grow and Humidity will let mushroom bodies Form. Make sure that Little air can come in and out of the tank so that Co2 build up doesn't happen.

Hey, dont stree on it, im in the same boat you are in. i cant Find any Mushrooms and the only way to grow Mushrooms is to have some spores/spore print/ Live Tussie/ Mycelium. And to get any of that you have to know some one who grows them. I had Mushrooms before but they were already dried  out and dead, so I couldn't get and live spres or tussie to grow any new Mushrooms. So im also on a serch to Find my own. The only thing i can say is, i hope i helped, and do you HOMEWORK on these Psilocybe Mushrooms before you go and try to grow any. If you try and Picking any BEWARE!!! Mushrooms that grow in the wild can be contaiminated and some are known to be really Posionious and others are known to be DEADLY!!! so just do you HOMEWORK and be-safe.
