“Imagination is more important than knowledge.”

Quote:
These were the words of the famous physicist Albert Einstein, who went on to say that "Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world."
If you venture into the subatomic world in an attempt to unveil its inner workings, possession of all the knowledge in the world is not enough. Instead, invite your imagination to serve as a guide, because many rules as we know them no longer apply. Just like the story of Alice In Wonderland, this new world may look familiar but it is not fully comprehensible. Scales shift and matter transforms. Transitory twins appear and extra dimensions hide.
Nature has the ability to throw us the biggest surprises, so expect dramatic twists and unexpected turns; many before you have dreamed up mind–blowing theories and crazy concepts. Some of these have prevailed against the tests of time and armies of knowledgeable critics – thus far.
Someone, sometime, somewhere, may succeed in completing these unfinished mysteries, or even rewrite the chapters entirely. The book is by no means finished.
This is from the CERN website.
Pay attention to imagination! Truly inspiring!

Everyone has imagination, imagination is NOTHING without reason. It's like putting on a light show for blind people. Also Einstein had LOTS of knowledge made use of LOADS of logic.

But everyone has a different imagination. We are all snowflakes.
Logic is the vehicle of reason, but the imagination is the driver. One is inert and functionless without the other.

Of course everyone has different imaginations, this wasn't the discussion.
What I am arguing about is that you can't do much solely with imagination.

I'm not arguing anything. I'm simply stating the converse of your point: that you can't do much solely with logic. Surely we can agree on this?

Imagination is a given. We all have it, it is true that some use it more than the others. But while one could state that some don't make use of reason, one can not state that some don't have any imagination. (I am not including here mentally disabled people, even though this issue is debatable too). So it all comes down on how you use that imagination. For instance, let's say that an individual isn't so much into letting his imagination flow, but perfectly applies logic and reason to that little bit of imagination that he lets shine through. I am willing to bet that in the majority of the cases he will accomplish more things (of course, talking in practical terms) than another individual who sets his imagination free but does not make use of critical thinking.

I agree with everything you just said. Never stated otherwise.
Does every discussion here have to be a debate?

Why should discussion take the form of a debate when no disagreement is present? I fail to see how it makes anything clear.
I sense this rapidly going off-topic, so we can continue this discussion over PM or in a separate thread if you like.

Elaborate please. The act of imagining is often baseless, as opposed to the act of reasoning.
Although one could say that reason is imagination reshaped. What does this have to do with your initial statement (the one I was arguing about) that imagination is more important than logic?
Not to mention that your post sounds like an appeal to authority. If a person was/is smart/intelligent, it doesn't necessarily mean that ALL of their ideas are righteous.

I agree... both imagination and logic are important. But imagination wins. Without imagination... most of what seems logical today, would have never been conceived.

I never made such a statement. Einstein did.

It was not an appeal to authority, it was an appeal to genius.

Anything that became conceived, became so through understanding, and understanding happens through rationalization. Therefore what you said translates to: imagination is important because without is there would be no logic. So obviously the reason why you put so much price on imagination is because it gets you to reasoning. The ultimate goal here being... yes... logic.

we are not what we imagine ourselves to be. what we are is beyond imagination and beyond comprehension. at the same time, everything is relative in this dualistic world. we see different facets of ourselves in every thing and place and then fill in the blank spaces.

...and if you have no critical thinking skills, you merely think "Oh, an apple hit me on the head. Yum! Apples are delicious!"
However, if you are a critical thinker, as well as a creative thinker, you might consider the natural laws which could have caused the apple to fall on your head. Then you might proceed to systematically test those laws to see if your creative thought has merit.
If Einstein had never progressed beyond imagination, daydreaming & creative thinking, he would not have accomplished the amazing work we are all (I hope) familiar with.
