Serious Sleep meds.

My entire life I've been plagued with mindbendingly terrible insomnia. I can't even really call it insomnia,more crippling sleep dep. I used to deal with it well,but the more i age the less i can deal with it,and it's ruining my life more than ever. The only things i've ever seen to work are stuipid high doses of Ambien,and stuipid-er high Doses of Seroquel ( basically an anti-psychotic tranquilizer),and a few other random Heavy tranqs. Over the years I've tried everything,even days where i'll work all day,skate all night,have sex,run all around town,etc,all with no sleep the previous night,and still not get to sleep until at least 7-8am. nowadays even a day or so without any sleep and I'm basically dangerous, I'm so impaired,but it still wont give in.
Does any one here take real 'hardcore' sleep meds? What are they and how are they working for you? I'm not talking about melatonin,valarian root or any of that pansy shit.

I'm just about in the same boat as you op and the only thing I have found to work for me is about 2mg of xanax. All those prescription "sleep-aids" like ambien and whatnot, they just make me feel strange and out of it, I wouldn't say they make me sleepy.
You should give xanax a shot, if you haven't already.

Xanax really isn't much of a hypnotic and often has a paradoxical effect in that regard.
Midazolam kicks ass, rohypnol and halcion are both amazing as well.

Take up relaxation meditation. It probably is your mind that keeps you awake. You'll have to learn progressive relaxation, because your insomnia over all those years probably made you unlearn it.
Particularly heavy sleep medications given only in exceptional cases are Chloral hydrate and Sodium oxybate (GHB). More standard but still quite heavy would be potent short-acting barbiturates, such as Amobarbital (Amytal) and Secobarbital (Seconal). These end-of-the-line drugs completely blow Midazolam and the like out of the water, but try those first.
All the above drugs are VERY unforgiving in overdose and in combination with other drugs, even pot.

i concur. when i was younger i had a horrible time getting to sleep, not quite what you describe but still bad. once i took up meditation and learned to quiet my mind it got A LOT easier.

Weed =]
I remember one of the first times I smoked pot, I experienced this amazingly blissful feeling whilst lying on my bed. It was the ultimate feeling of sleepiness. I passed out on my bed moments later, waking up the next morning feeling great. If you can't get to sleep after smoking weed, then....well....I dunno dude.
Sorry..

it seems like its not a chemical thing
id say go for some hypnotherapy and see if they can uncover whatever is keeping you awake
