It's usually done the same way one does a core shroom mycelium biopsy for cloning. A syringe with a special needle is stabbed into the lymph node to get some tissue. Without anesthetics, it'll hurt. Ask for a general anesthetic at least, but one will probably be given to you.

Kind of depends. I had a lymph node biopsy that left me with a slightly painful scar, but it was healing fast and easy to deal with. Then I had to go back for another one that fucked me up good. This was about 10 months ago and it still hurts.
I think there are a lot of different factors at play.

General anasthetic? That's a bit of overkill isn't it? Put someone to sleep for a biopsy? You'll be given a local anasthetic. It will be uncomfortable but shouldn't hurt.

The thing is, its incredibly tender to the touch and I can't imagine someone sticking a needle in it.

well, its been very sore and swollen for about 6/7 months now, and they've tried me on fat doses of antibiotics and steroids to see if its some kind of infection, but the drugs had no effect on me, and my white bloodcell count appears to be fine, so that basically rules out any kind of infection. They did a ct scan on my head/neck/chest and I should hear back from them after the holidays. After they look at the ct scan's they'll determine if a biopsy is needed. But the lymph nodes themselves, are pushing on my windpipe and voicebox, making it sometimes hard to breath and making my voice alot lower, not too mention the discomfort and pain. Its also causing my ear on that side to expierence a great deal of excrutiating pain and ringing also making me dizzy and naeseus at times.

Yea, it sounds pretty complicated. I don't really have any advice, but I really hope everything turns out ok!
Much love. Keep us posted.

they pulled 17cc of pus out of the lymph node underneath my arm with a syringe.... then cut me open and drained more when they knew that the pus was causing the swelling.
They gave me local anesthetics, and it really hurt at first when they put the needle in to inject the anesthetic, then I felt nothing, it was almost instantly numb.... you wont feel much after they inject you man. Expect pus, and draining, and a 2-4 week recovery afterwards.
I heard this is a pretty common problem (seems like it is in the shroomery too, wonder if it growing related..?). I hope never to get this again.
