The safest investment is to invest in drugs. If I had 7500 bucks, I would rent a house, buy grow supplies, buy clones and start growing weed. You can easily turn that $7500 into $40-$60k within a year depending on where you live, as well as a free place to live. The problem though, if you lose out you lose your freedom and your money.

Every investment is a trade-off between risk and return. The best way to make money while protecting yourself from market fluctuations is with a well diversified portfolio. You can build one easily by purchasing mutual funds. Vanguard is client-owned and has some of the lowest loads in the industry. I have most of my cash in their Prime Money Market fund, Total Stock Market Index fund and Total International Stock Index fund. Their Total Bond fund is also worth consideration. Don't trust anyone who recommends specific stocks or says their advice will beat the market. Index funds outperform other investments including managed funds over the long term, and buy and hold investors end up with better returns than frequent traders. There's lots of information online if you want to learn more.

My best advice would probably be to invest in some mutual funds. Those can have some serious returns and they're more balanced than individually purchasing stocks where you can lose everything in the inability for a single company to be profitable.

Anything can lose all of its value though if shit really goes down. I mean the US can completely collapse and the dollar will actually be worth nothing. The world economy could be reformed and all gold/silver could lose it's value entirely. Is there really anything that's safe?

You can invest in real estate and then have it seized by the government.

The only thing I can see not losing its value is coke. No one in the western world will ever allow cocaine to be legalized. It will only rise in value as demand goes up and supply is stunted. But one DEA raid and that's gone too.

That's why it's not always best to invest in your future. But if everything ends up fine and the government doesn't collapse you'll regret not having saved and invested more. That's just how that game works.

But yeah, if you believe the government will be here five, ten years from now. Hit up the mutual funds.

Well if you believe the global economy is headed for a collapse it's the way to go. Personally I don't see that happening; I've chosen to hedge my bets with an above-average allocation of international stocks but I'm also prepared to wait out a protracted decline if worst comes to worst. I certainly don't think it's foolish to invest in precious metals, and if I'd bought gold when you first started recommending it I'd be ahead of the game now, but historically the returns haven't been particularly competitive. It's also inconvenient to stockpile and secure physical goods, and "high load" in the sense that you pay a relatively steep markup to the dealer up front. But ultimately it's just a different strategy which puts a higher premium on peace of mind and preserving existing value rather than creating new value. It has its place in a diversified portfolio but I wouldn't recommend investing solely in gold any more than I'd recommend investing solely in large-cap stocks or CDs or any other asset class.
