Drying/Black Mushrooms

I got some Cyans yesterday and in the drying process the caps blackened. Is that normal or have they gone bad?

Also what's the best ay to dry mushrooms? I don't have a dehydrator, I've just been using the fan method.

mine turn black sometimes when drying. if its not mold they will be ok

Does it kill potency?

I've heard it kills potency and tastes horrid.

mushies taste aweful anyhow. if u dry them right they wont lose potency

Yeah, I've had many mushrooms.

Is fan-air drying them a good way? I'm sure it's the most common, right?

i fan dried some, put the rest on a minow net on the back top of my monitor. Got em cracker dry in under a day and didn't notice no loss in potency. Come to find out the heat comming off my monitor was only 86 degrees plus it is constant and non fluctuating. So heat really doesn't cause loss in potency. Now if the heat is generated in waves with a rest period in between then yes it would affect it.

How long can mushrooms stay active when they're dried? Anyone know?

To prolong them dried store them ground in gelcaps or in a vacuum sealed bag. Eliminate the air and they will last for a year or more.

Another option is putting them in honey.
