back on topic, even if shrooms are changed to an illegal schedule or whatever, the apparent 'lax drug scene(historically and culturally) in the Nederlands in general leads me to believe that there would be no shroom shortage for those that seek.

This is intimidation, but something that stands in one's power to disallow. From what I observed, many people actually feel guilty for using drugs so what laws do is that they adapt to this general psychology to be more efficient. So changing the way we think will automatically make the laws change as well.

The 17 year old girl was French, and she was also drunk at the time. While I cannot be certain, common sense implies that most of the foreign drug tourism in Amsterdam is from European countries, such as France and Britain (Britian being the main cause of concern).

Health concerns and suicide as a result of mushrooms is an extremely isolated occurence. When 500,000 doses of mushrooms are sold in a year, and there are 128 or so ambulance calls relating to mushrooms, that is statistically insignfigant. In fact, that is .0003%.

Anyone who has attained a reasonable, rudimentary understanding of the real situation knows that the decision to plan on criminalizing mushrooms has nothing to do with any problems relating from mushrooms. Politicial pressure from other European Union countries (Britian is a likely culprit), coupled with a prevalence of Christian conservatism is the underlying reasons for the call for the ban. Media hysteria plays a role as well I'm sure, just like it has in Britian, regarding all of the hysteric propaganda regarding super skunk.

The mayor of Amsterdam proposed a three day waiting period before the transaction could be completed, as well as education materials being given out in the mean time, as well as an age limit. Clearly, as a man responsible for the budget for the city, he knows just how important tourism is to Amsterdam's economy. If you think this has anything to do with ridding the city of drug tourists, then you might as well eat that serrano up another's asshole.

In fact, considering that we are talking about the Netherlands here, criminalization of mushrooms poses a serious threat to the hope for progress and sanity in regards to drug use everywhere, as the Netherlands is traditionally and widely recognized as the most liberal country regarding drug usage. Apparently the fervant feedback they have been receiving is having its influence. A friend of a friend has spoken with people in smartshops, and apparently they've been informed that there will be at least two more weeks before a decision is going to be made. Clearly there is an incredible amount of resistance to this baseless political maneuver, and the resistance has on its side intelligence, cold hard facts, and the backing of a lot of money from tourism. Maybe we can focus on supporting a worthy and crucial cause, instead of being ignorant fools.

Not to nitpick, I actually agree with you about selling entheogenics in general. I prefer trading whenever possible - I swear it makes the high better. And guilt-free. I'm just curious as to why you make an exception for marijuana when it is certainly seen as sacred by the Saddhus, the Sufis, the Rastas, and me.
