they do naturally, IME when they get to like 5/6cm in diameter (on their own root) they may start to pup 
this one has 3 pups now.

i am pretty interested t see how it works on lophs Uare! let us know when you play a bit!
you could also damage the growing point on any cactus to make it pup, not the healthiest thing to do but it works. grafts often pup more than seed grown anyway.

i have a bunch of that stuff and i use it on my orchids it works great for branching at the nodes, i will have to break it out and do some experiments also :-O yea new stuff to play with :-))

great with orchids and apparently it works on all kinds of plants, not just orchids and cacti. you can play for a while

With perkopsis grafted lophos I over fertilize them and theyll dam near pup on every tuft. I usually use a strong flowering fert meant for MJ.

yeah that cytokinin hormone (main ingredient in keiki paste) is reported to work on all plants, that is why i figure it should work with cacti also
some bastard stole both my phals so i have no other use for it now...
its not quite the same as the BAP stuff that una used in that thread posted above, but its definately worth a shot

Damage the growth tip.
It's like pinching the tips of a plant to force branching.
Cut the top off, (graft it) leaving the lower half and roots to start producing pups.
. OR You can
Heat the head of a pin till it glows. Then brand the growth tip. It just takes one touch if you get dead center of where new growth originates.
The smaller burn will heal faster. It also looks better then the Frankenstein's Head look, you get
from cutting the top off.
