Psilocybe Semilanceata? And others...
    #7202721 - 07/20/07 04:12 PM (7 years, 3 months ago)

After a couple hours of mushroom hunting, we found several species. All of these were found in Canada, some in forests and some on lawns.

Species #1 Identified as Panaeolus subbalteatus
These were found on my lawn at the side of my house. The caps are brown and underneath the caps the gills are brown too. The stalks are brown/white. My guess is that these are Psilocybe Semilanceata, anybody else think that?

Species #2
These were found in a forest growing out of logs and out of the ground. They have yellowish/orangeish caps and the gills are yellowish too. Stalks are mostly brown.

Species #3
These were found in the forest growing out of rotting tree stumps. They have golden/white caps, brownish stalks and the gills are dark brown.

(Species 4 and 5 removed.)

If anybody can give me an ID on any of these mushrooms that would be very much apreciated. I am pretty sure the first ones are Psilocybe Semilanceata. Thankyou people of the Shroomery!

Are subbs active or edible?

Subbs are active. Don't eat any of these until they're identified.

I'm not sure if Liberty Caps are found in your area, but I know Cubensis isn't.

Yeah that big one isn't a cube. Resembles some gyms I find, so I'd look more at gymnopilus for the large one, and the other large one isn't agaric (has gills) so I would say if you're only interested in finding actives then don't even bother with it.

Something to help you identify you subbs is that their spore prints should be as a black as can be. Also they should have rings on the caps of different colors, and they should have lines on the stems that are twisting, and the stems can be anywhere from a light to tan color.

Sorry, next time I will scale the images down a bit. I will look for those clues you said Rabidbaboon. I am going to take a spore print and see if it is jet black.

Species three is Coprinus micaceus or another coprinus.

I would do a spore print of all of te mushrooms that you thought were liberty caps.

If they have a black spore print youll have panaeolus subbalteatus. which is a psychoactive mushroom.

Read my guide in my profile for all the info you need on hunting and ID'ing them.

The first ones are certainly not libs. They do grow with the libs in the same environment. Or at least do here in Estonia.

im 90% certain #3 is Coprinus something (prolly C. Micaceus) like jeverden said.
you can kinda see the white sandy specks on top of them in their habittat pic (the ones to the left) i think :S
Micaceus has a hollow stem i believe though, and i cant see that in the 'picked' pic. but still prolly coprinus.

Just summing up, spore print all the mushrooms in pic 2, (species 1). If the print is jet black, put them aside and maybe post them up here, but they are likely pan subbs, an active species.

And species 3 looks very much like coprinus truncorum,

Edit: Oops they might not exist in your country... if not, yeah coprinus micaceus

They could be subbs, but they also could very well be foes or another inactive pan species.

I took a spore print of Species #1, it came out black and there was also different colored rings going around the caps. So I am certain that Species #1 are Subbs. I ate the 16gs of Subbs and had a very nice level 3 trip. As for the other two species, I was pretty sure that they weren't active but I agree with you guys about #3 being coprinus. I threw species 2 and 3 back into the forest where they belong.

Thanks for everyone who helped me ID these and happy
shrooming! :tongue2:

By the way, great subb guide Subbedhunter. I found the information very helpful. I am going to go back to the patch where I found these Subbs and hopefully find some more!
