I had a Christian upbringing and was taught that God created everything, setting in motion what would lead to flowering of the cosmos in life. I was taught evolution, biology and ethics, there was no conflict. The Salesian brothers and priests who were my instructors did not take the old testament literally like born again christians do.

Natural selection is the driving force behind evolution, not souls.

>I think maybe that "God or God's" created the primate human
And who created the god(s) ?
Come on man...
A creator can't exist, its rediculous to say one can as it leaves you in a paradox.
I'm not disregarding the possabilty that we were created. A god is supposed to be the ultimate being (nothing higher) but it couldn't create us, it would have to be us, be everything.
The highest being that I can see, is DNA.

Evolution didn't start at monkey's, we evolved from the most simple unicellular Prokaryote organism... from there onwards, we have a fairly decent idea of how Eukaryotes and multicellular organisms came into existence through the recent advancements in molecular biology.
We can see how it's possible the various proteins, organelle's and eventually cells can be formed in a "mock" atmosphere. What we can't understand though is HOW the preliminary atoms (all our carbon, oxygen, hydrogen and nitrogen to make our fancy organic molecules) came to be??
Evolution is no secret, it may be a theory, but it's pretty rock solid... as time goes on, we're just gaining more and more evidence.

Could also be that we evolved from an extraterrestrial line in addition to emerging out of monkeys, mammals, fish, and prokaryotes.
Multiple evolutionary origins are very possible.

Not dumb at all - I think, evolution is the creation process itself. This includes, that we are not perfectly fully evolved, of course. Our souls may be eternal and somehow just ready as they came into existence, but also they seem to develop (in most non-fundamental religions), as much as our physical body and brain over the generations. So, for me, both concepts don't exclude eachother, they compliment eachother. Playing them out against each other points to some other motivation of the pointer, like power, money, ego, whatever.
