 Cubensis grow kit

Hey, first off I request your patience and tolerance, as I am a complete n00b in the area of mushroom cultivation (althought I've appreciated them on different levels. Very different levels! lol). I have one of those growbox's you soak over night, and now its been 5 or 6 days and there's kinda fluffy looking white stuff all over the top. Is this okay?
Sorry for such a n00b-like question, but I want to make sure its going okay, because I lost one to mold before. Thanks.

This is mycelium. It's what you want assuming it's not cobweb. Is it in the fruiting chamber or still incubating? Do you know what cobweb or other molds, bacterias, and contams look like? You need to do some research. If you end up with a contam and don't even know what it looks like you're going to end up making someone really sick with your mushies or killing them. Please research the basic FAQs on this site.

Oh, and cobweb is more grey but sometimes very hard to tell the difference. That's why you need to research and learn what the different kinds of contams look like. It's in the FAQs so just check that to make sure. If it's really white though it's good to go.

If it's your first grow, assume it's not cobweb. Otherwise, absolutely everyone will wind up throwing their first grow out.  Cobweb isn't as common as your average newbie would suppose. I've seen it once or twice on cakes, but it's not the kind of thing you tend to see in a colonizing cake so much as on a fruiting one. Even then, you tend to find it on older, unhealthy cakes that have been left in conditions with no fresh air exchange and sometimes too-low humidity.
I would bet real money it's mycelium, not cobweb. That's normal development you're seeing.
People constantly scare newbies with the thought that it might be mold, and it never is! Post a picture, if you want an ID for sure.
Mushroom mycelium is nice and fluffy and white, like clouds. Sometimes it is surprisingly fluffy, which is what scares people who don't know what it looks like. Cobweb is nasty and stringy and grayish-white, like cobwebs, and it tends to rise higher than mycelium does. It is thin, and can be seen through--wispy. Even if your cake did fruit despite having cobweb (which it doesn't), you wouldn't just keel over dead from from eating the mushrooms it gave you it anyway (though you still shouldn't eat anything that's moldy, on principle).
As I said, it's mycelium. If you're really worried, post a pic. But I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Okay, thats a relief. Definetly very white and fluffy like clouds. Thanks for the info...
BTW, that other one I said I lost to mold, well I never threw it away, and this morning I couldnt believe what I saw. A shroom is growing up the side! It mustnt have had mold after all! I didnt think anything would come of it after all this time, but there ya go!

It might've been mold anyway. Is it green? Casings are most often hit with trich.
Cobweb is a little rarer, in my experience.
I don't really know anything about the "grow box" you're describing, so I can't say.

There doesnt seem to be anything in there but that one shroom and some little patches of white stuff here and there, mainly along the sides. I'm not 100% sure it was contaminated to begin with, but I thought some of the stuff along the sides before looked kinda off-white, so I took it outside and carefully scraped it out and put it back in the bag. Its one of those ones where you fold the top of the bag and close it with paperclips.
Is this dodgy, or is the shroom okay? Should I post a pic?

Yep, just regular cubensis. I dried that one out. It got lots of blue-ish looking stains on it.

I've never seen it that dark myself, but I do know there's a good bit of variation in cap color by strain.
I find that when only one shroom grows from a casing, it's usually a fucking monster, since it has all the nutes it needs. I'm suppose some unusual balance of nutrients resulting from that same fact may have caused the unusual coloration here, if genetics weren't the cause. I've got a photo I'm itching to download from my camera when I find the USB cord I need from my last (failed) straw casing's only fruit (damn near a foot long!),
