They can be contaminated, from day 1.
And, you NEVER know it.
Until you inoculate spawn jars with that LC.
Then, have every single spawn jar GO SOUTH.

or you can use the same process to blindly reduce the number of substrains present in a MS (http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/5781218/an/0/page/3)
