Hi everyone, i dont know much about this stuff but i wondered...what if someone high up with access to stuff, wanted to use all these linked up processors for some other purpose than the "curing cancer simulations"?
I am interested in it, but on these grounds, i am hesitant.

The software only has access to downloading and uploading the work units. It has no administrator privladges that you don't allow

Hey guys.
I was screwing around with my newish PC and messing about with different CPU/MOTHERBOARD settings in the bios. I was using the SMP client in FAH to check stability as it seemed to crash the computer or detect errors quickly, however; I didn't realize that for the SMP client you need 80% success rate to get 'bonus points'. Without these points, that client is basically worthless, as I'd get something like 500-1000 points per day even if running constantly.
Would anyone be willing to "trade" some SMP work units to me in exchange for GPU work units? I'll given you more points than you give me
Basically I'd just give you my passkey and username (same as my username here: johnm214) and you'd complete a few workunits to help me out using the SMP client, and I'd hit you back with GPU workunits with more in points.
Let me know if anyone's interested! As it is, I need like 20 SMP workunits to get up to an 80% success rate, so this would take a while if I did it alone.
: )
By the way: I recommend the FAH GPU tracker for both CPU, SMP, GPU, or any combination of those clients! I only have a single video card, but if your a nut like Ythan or something, it can track something like 10 of em for you. It basically is just an interface that downloads clients, workunits, for you and allows you to easily turn on or off the various clients as well as simplifying configuration (i.e. just a click of the mouse to have your SMP client only use 3 cores rather than all 4). It also keeps stats, which is how I know how screwed I am due to testing my computer on those SMP workunits, lol

FahMon and HFM.NET are some handy tools to track points etc.
HFM is the best because it also calculates bonus points for the SMP clients and gives the best estimates of daily points and a great "time until completion" estimate. Plus it allows you to see how long per "frame" aka each 1%.

Hey guys!,
Just started folding again after 7 years hiatus; hooked on it again!
Got the PS3, my Duo Core computron and my Macbook Pro all working like mad (7 clients) to feed my need and hopefully help the sciency stuff along.
See y'all in the Top 100! ^.^

One word of advice to everyone who is folding.
DO NOT overclock your GPU or CPU to get points faster. It can cause incorrect results which just makes the science unreliable.
Remember the point of this is to help cure diseases that we may all have one day, not a race for "bragging rights".

Ythan said: Every work unit helps . Hell I even have my Xbox folding, that's a 733MHz Celeron and it takes a week to finish a work unit but it's better than nothing! ShroooomerToo, if you visit this page it has an overview of the Folding@home project and links to more detailed information. If you have any specific questions I'll be glad to answer them.
Do you have a link where I can get my xbox to start folding too?

How do i know when this is working. I but in my username as Cognitive_Shift and put in the shroomery team number, left my passkey blank hit okay and then what happens now?
I also have no idea how to "fold" but i'm not there yet, i just wanna get set up. And how do i eventually get the helix?
